thinking about making the jump into an RS4

Post by fade2grey » Thu Sep 01, 2005 10:15 am

The prices on RS4's seem to vary widely, can anyone suggest a ball park figure to expect to pay for a very good condition late 2001/02 RS4, low miles, warrenty, hitec interior, carbon, & satnav. Or is it worth waiting for the prices to settle when more new RS4's are out & about?

Does anyone have a definitive list of options for the RS4?

Cheers,
A

Oh yeah, just grabbed the brochure from the downloads section, I'm also after the following options:
Auto dipping mirror
front centre arm rest
iso fix mountings
curtain air bags
satnav plus

ideal colours (in order of appearance) would be:
Azure blue (though it might be ming blue - kind of dark navy pearl)
Avus Silver
Noggy blue
Missano
Imola

are there any other options I should be aware of? :)

Great car but drive one first. Completely different power delivery to the S4.

Yeah, luckily my bro's got a 2001 RS4 (which I've actually got down at work this week yay) - so I'm pretty familiar with the car. I'll be doing less miles in it than the S4 too. I still think the S4 would be the better option for a long journey or a jaunt across europe though... :P

In essence, you're describing the car I just bought except for the SatNav. Expect to pay around 32k at a UK Audi dealer. I have a slightly modified S4 as well, so be prepared for a littler harsher ride (I have coilovers installed on my S4) and more tire noise over a stock S4. In my mind prices for these cars are going to continue to come down as their mileage increases. However, I still believe that for the money you get an exceptional sports car that even my two little kids can love. From a residual value perspective the devaluation of a used RS4 will be miniscule in comparison to any new car.

Nice :) I know that satnav can be retro fitted but it would be much easier if it was there from the start - I'm not sure how common or easy to fit the other options are though..

Get a portable SATNAV, you will never want anything else after that. Garmin or TomTom

I did think about that, I've got an ipaq\tomtom in the S4 but prefer the OEM look & the fact I can have TV :P

To be honest I think the RS4 B5 Sat Nav is a bit dated, and would look to get something more up to date. Take a look at my gallery, I installed a Kenwood system when I got my RS4 in 2001, even then it was ahead of the Audi gear.... Touch Screen and DVD based.

I think of the 4 main optional extras available, the Sat Nav is becoming the least 'must have' despite it being the most expensive. There are sooo many better alternatives now, but I would say that... I don't have it.

whatdayamean it's a bit dated.. I'm using a map :P

Yeah bobjebb, I think you are right, the satnav probably isn't a show stopper & lets face it, I could fit either OEM or something else later.

Just washed my bro's... that azure blue looks wicked! very nice indeed in the sun today.

mines just been done too.. Not by me, I couldn't seem to get the right finish.

Handed it to a local valeter recomended by AMD. Not cheap but worth it. Very pleased with the seats, he used stuff that he claims is nigh on impossible to get your hands on, unless you know someone at Rolls Royce..

The moral of the story? If you want something done properly? Get someone else to do it.
