Has anyone got a theory or any thought on what is going to happen to the secondhand market prices of RS4's when the new shape cars start to hit the road in an around sept (or when the finally arrive).

I am asking as i am thinking of upgrading to one, but am reluctant to buy at the moment for the concern that they will take a big hit in resale value upon the new shapes arrival.

It is the one and only model which will not be affected by the release of a new one, the original RS4 will not be improved by the new model and and already stated, the rarity of the B5 will hold its price. RS2 is a prime example of a vehicle which the value never dropped after the release of a new model.

Price will go up as people realise what a great car the B5 RS4 is after seeing the new B7 RS4

The B7 RS4 looks like a B7 S-Line.... B5 look the business. End of story IMHO.

The unique thing about B5 RS4 is that its a car that with a little tuning match porche, Ferrari (4.0-4.3 to 100 km :D ) est. and still be a every day car. And B7 RS4 will be as it is with no way for tuning and nothing unique, I would rather buy BMW if we are talking of non turbo engines IMHO.

Personally i say why Audi...., we as RS4 owners believe in the lovely turbine not the massive V8 which isnt very tuneble.

So what will happen to the residuals then...A good example is the RS2 which is still going strong...and then the introduction of the RS4 which was more powerful, and better to look at aswell. It actually made the RS2 a bit of a rarety and something special to own...

We will have boring B7 compared to old B5 beast...an icon unmatched!

EXACTLY Phil

I saw the RS4 in Geneva, then I was walking past the showroom in Piccadilly and saw an RS4 but as it turned out it was an S4. You could never make that mistake with a B5 car.

But you have one on order. right?

The B5 will always be special just like the RS2 but even more so because of its entirely different body shape from the rest of the B5 A4s and its tunability. Where are you going to get 430ftlbs of torque in an everyday car which can also handle and with loads of luxuries?

Two actually, a saloon and an avant. The saloon was supposed to be for this year, but I want to keep the B5 and sit on the fence for a while.... Well until the end of the B7 Avant run or the R9. Must get that R9 forum up....

All about opinions, I thought the new RS4 looked superb in the flesh at Goodwood - arches easily as big as the B5.

This week's Autocar has a brief note on the impact of the new RS4 on prices of all RS models - take from it what you will.

It anticipates that the price of RS4s will take a hit over the next 6 months and will be much lower than they are now.

I have been watching the RS4 market for over a year and you only need to compare prices now with a year ago when you would be lucky to see an RS4 on the market for under £30K, most were high/mid-30s.

Now they are coming in around £27K (even at some stealers!) and I expect that in 6 months once the new RS4 is launched they will be lower still which is why I have put off buying until Spring next year.

I don't mean to offend anyone as this is all IMHO. Of course I could be saying this to scare current owners into selling their cars now to depreciate the market further so that I can pick up one at a good rate

The good news is, once you've got one, why would you wanna sell!!!

I predict that very few B5 RS4 owners and previous owners will buy the B7. Most B7s will be bought by ex-M3 owners who want something better. This is especially the case with the saloon.

So don't hold your breath. There won't be a whole lot of B5s coming on the market. Those that have them now won't be selling them......EVER :)

I've had mine for 18months or so now...was 35k when I bought it...I don't think there's many other modern cars out there that would have kept value as well as RS4's over that time period.

Just compare CSL's, Porsche Turbos...I think RS4's are holding pretty well, and I don't think the new RS4 will have that much of an impact...people have known details about it for 6 months or so now, and whilst I'm sure it will be faster than a standard B5, I don't think there will be much in it compared to a modded B5...

The lack of a confirmed 'Ring time make me think it's not breaking the 8 min barrier...if it was I think we'd have heard about it.
