Hi all
I've just convinced a chum to join the RS4 family. There is one problem on his car which needs sorting which concerns the headlamps.
The auto-adjust does not seem to function, which is I understand not unknown, so it will need "proper" attention. However there are adjusters for both main & dip beams on the light units but these seem not to work either - they just turn with no effect on the light positions. Is this normal or am I missing something?
Thanks

Headlamp adjustment
RE: Headlamp adjustment
Doesn't sound normal....any signs of front end damage ??
Has the car been lowered with aftermarket suspension ? - this can affect the height sensor that in turn has an effect on the auto-adjust headlights. You're actually supposed to adjust the lights with VAG-COM or similar, rather than just use the adjusters....there's a procedure on the VAG-COM website to show you how this is done..
..Or just pay a visit to the dealers...they'll probably charge you 20 quid or so!

RE: Headlamp adjustment
You can adjust the lights manually, but as soon as you start the car, the lights will resume the preset level unless this is changed with Vag Com. The sensors on the front anti roll bars have been known to go faulty, as is the control box under the back seat. The system will self test at switch on, you should see the the lights cycle when first switched on, sometimes confussed with them going dim for a second, they lower then rise to the default setting.

RE: Headlamp adjustment
To set the headlights you need to adjust them manualy then store the position.
Park the car with the lights on facing a suitable wall (perhaps the garage wall) . Adjust them using the manual adjustment to the rear of the lights, so the horizontal part of the beam are in line together and at the desired hight.
Once this is done you need to run a basic setting with Vag Com or similar. This can be found in in Zennon lights and group 1 or 2 it will run a test when OK the lights will be set.
