Just wondering if I upgraded the pads to EBC Redstuff as supplied by AMD
whether it would make any significant difference to the braking?

Less fade I would assume?

Try a search...it's been discussed many times...TarmacTerrorist tried out various pads with standard discs I think.

Never tried the Redstuff (biturbo used them on his s4 as daily runners iirc), I had the Greenstuff pads on the car when I first got it though.

Not too bad actually, very clean on the alloys due to the high kevlar content they have, not recommended for track use on the website albeit I got 5-6 good laps out of the Donington GP circuit before they gave up on me with pad fade. For a general purpose road pad with the standard/gmbh disc I would certainly consider these again. I hate washing wheels at the best of times and they also gave a good bite from the off, which if the missus is driving the car is what you want...

After a long discussion with a guy called Paul Wilkinson at a company called Competition Motorsport Braking (UK distributer for Pagid amonst others), I eventually went for a Pagid Orange front, Pagid Blue rear and a change of fluid to a higher temp racing fliud (srx?) Can't remember the name of the stuff now.....Derrrr. Pagid manufacture the standard pads for Audi so can provide anything in there range to fit the car.

I personally found this to be the best set up that I tried in terms of a compromise for both my driving style/requiremnets and the capabilities and wear rates of the standard caliper and disc. Anything harder and you start eating discs under normal driving conditions (as reported by those using the pagid yellow supplied with the gmbh disc kit and what I have found with the hard metal sintered race pads on the movits).

Only problem I found with the Pagid Oranges on the fronts was that they sqeauled every now and then when driving slowly around town if you hadn't given them a recent spanking.....No way near as bad as the Yellows which sqeual permanantly (joshie), if this is an issue then use a Pagid blue for the fronts aswell.

For daily use, I currently run with a Pagid blue on the front Movit 4-pot/380's and I'm using just a standard audi pad in the oem rears (there aint much meat on the pagid blues rears even when new). This has been fine, and gave me good results at the Ring the other week without having to change to the full race pad on the fronts. This combination could be used with the standard brakes aswell resulting in a better bite, slighty less pad fade and a tolerable wear to the discs.

It all depends on what your after doing with them as there comes a point were they just won't perfom anymore regardless of what pad/fluid combo you have. It all seemed like a bit of a balancing act really with the standard kit in trying to keep them performing within there working parameters for as long as possible with what you were doing with them.

I've now had OE discs and EBC redstuff pads fitted to the front.
Initial feedback is that although they don't bite as sharp as the stock OE pads at low speeds, progressive braking is very strong and no fade whatsoever after braking repeatedly from high speeds.
Plus no noise or squeals.
Recommended.

You mean when cold, rather than just at low speeds.
My 2p is that if you are not going on track this setup should be fine.

Is it possible to use the existing pad wear indicators or is it a case of buying new ones from the stealers ? Assuming the Redstuff pads have provision for wear indicators of course....

I have EBC yellow stuff pads. they have the wear indicators on and work fine. (I think!)

i run yellows as well.
bit sketchy when cold but great when up to temp.
also very clean.
only concern would be sacrificing disc with a harder pad. not sure how long they last with yellows vs say OEM

I've just changed back red EBC pads to Ferodo ones. Had them for last 13.000km (about 8.000miles) and I was extreme disappointed. They just destroyed my new disc (I use RS6+ front brakes). Comparing to Ferodos there was no braking power/fading and lot of noise.

In my opinion - highly unrecommended
