Milltek - too noisy?

Post by Golfather » Fri May 27, 2005 1:28 pm

I've had a search here and theres mixed opnions on the MIlltek on the RS4.

Some say its boomy at around 2000rpm, some say its perfectly fine
Spoke with Milltek and they say they have revised the system last year.

Can anyone tell me whos had a Milltek fitted recently, whether its a nice noise or is it unbearble on long journey. Does it have any boom spots?

I'd be interested in Cat back only version.

Thanks.

Cat back is fine for noise.
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6

got the full milltek sports system put in with the new 100 cell cats.
firstly, it is louder then stock and don't let anyone else tell you that it isn't.

ask yourself some questions firstly in regards to why you want the milltek catback system.
getting just the catback system WILL NOT improve performance (minimal if best), it will give you a different exhaust note, a louder one.

so do you want the milltek for performance? then you have to get new cats.
do you want it to sound exactly like stock? then don't get the milltek.
can you bear it being moderately louder or boomy? i dunno how you feel in regards to noise, you will have to have a ride in someones car. i took a ride in someones and found it quite bearable.

i hope this helped, oh if you get the full system, you will need a new remap of the ecu to get the full benefits.

Excelent , just what I would say .
I do love the Miltec also.
Simply ,be kind to your car and do it all or nothing.
Unless you just want it to sound faster.

Anything different from the standard exhaust sound is 'compulsary' ! Had the cat bac system for a while now.Nice discreet deep sound. Will hopefully be up-grading to the whole system.Need to check out bob's car first....speak to you later bob !

FYI
We have dyno'ed two 01 RS4's on the same dyno here recently. Mine was std and produced 229wkw, and the other with a Cat Back only Milltek produced 240wkw. ie you get 11kw with the cat back exhaust.

200 cell is quieter than 100 cell and obviously both are louder than stock

I don´t know about the Milltek system, but what I know, is that my ROMULOS (Made by REMUS) system with the racing pipe (instead of the middle muffler) sounds great. You can check it up at http://www.remus.at/
