RS4 Car Register

Right, following on from another mail, I have decided to start an S/RS register.
Good idea ?
Bad idea ?
My initial interest is with the RS4, which is why I'm making the post in this section.
Firstly, let me assure you I have no intention of disclosing any specific details about a given car except to the owner of it.
The initial aims of this register are to:
1) provide statistics from the gathered data (colour / how many are about / how often they change hands / mods / etc)
2) attempt to keep track of the cars as they get sold on
3) allow prospective owners to verify certain details of cars for sale
(no details disclosed, only confirmation of details provided)
So, for those interested in submitting details, can you please PM me with the following:
Your details
Name (not screen name)
county
previous owner details if known (name & county)
Car details
date first reg'd
current reg
any previous reg (with approx date changed)
chassis #
colour
factory options
modifications
If anyone thinks I should collect other information such as mileage, or have any other comments, please feel free to shout.
If you have reservations of providing some of the above information please also shout. I would prefer to receive basic information such as reg date / colour / options / mods than none at all.
Incidentally I would also like/need to hear of cars seen on forecourts or elsewhere (i.e. those that belong to people not on this site). Colour reg and location are minimum for these, but if other info such as options is available please submit it too.
So come on then people. Get mailing
Cheers,
John.
p.s. I trust this does not upset the rs246 crew. i have suggested this before but no one has taken up the idea, which is why I'm doing it myself.

I thought I would just add, from having a look through the registered peeps on here there are potentially 50 RS4 owners on this site (in the uk - a further 10 in other countries).
Some of these may have sold their cars (I know TimJMS, Thorney, JohnH have for starters).
There are a further 30 cars currently advertised via autotrader, so that is not a bad start.
Well it wouldn't be if you'd all send me the details anyway, pleeeeeeeze
I have extracted what info I could via recent posts and the gallery, but I'd like confirmation please, so keep them PM's coming (thanks to those who have responded already).
Oh, and if you did have an RS4 and have subsequently sold it, I'd like whatever details of that you can supply if possible. Don't want much do I
Cheers,

John.

Come on guys.........dont be lemmings.... hard enough to do without having to trawl through thousands of posts to find the info.
Nothing sinister here lads, just a register of cars for your own use only. This has worked really well with quattro club, has has in the past protected propective buyers from ringers and write offs, worth two mins of your time to fill out the details and bare in mind, no addresses are requested or required so no issue with security. Go on give it a lash and lets have a diffinitive register of RS4's

Thanks Simon.
As it stands I have identified 50 potential current owners on here (plus a further 10 who I know have sold cars on).
How many responses ?
FOUR !!!!!
If you don't want to give Reg or Chassis # then please simply '*' out the numbers in the reg and the last 4 numbers in the chassis #. The top part of the chassis # are all the same anyway.
The Info I'm after is as posted above.
To make it easier please specify the following too
SatNav+ (tv): Y/N
Sunroof: Y/N
interior trim: piano or carbon
ext black trim: Y/N
body colour mirrors: Y/N
autdip interior mirror: Y/N
leather colour or techno: black/silver/techno
curtain side airbags: Y/N
arm rest: Y/N
I think that was all the uk options...
If not please add them (I've not included alcantara wheel & knob - treating those as mods).
Remember that SOME info is better than NO info at all. So from that point of view I'd welcome details from ex owners too.
Currently I think I can account for 80 cars.
Btw, can anyone recall details of the writeoff posted earlier this week - the page has been removed now
I'll look forward to the deluge of PM's later on then...
Cheers,
John.
p.s. any chance of making this a sticky post ? (if you know what I mean)

In France at the mo... I have been thinking of putting a database together for the site to do this. My suggestion is to get the details from the Audi sticker in the log book as the codes signify the vehicle spec etc....

Why doesn't someone just put together a form so people can upload this info themselves into a MYSQL database or something? It's one page and a table in the database, can't take long to make. This forum must already use a database, what type?
Then down the track we can easily build other pages with search functions.. would also be a good idea to have a log faults table, cost to repair, mods, etc. That could be useful.

That's exactly the aim Don, but I don't have strong MySQL/PHP skills..... Do you?

I've been doing all my data-driven pages in java using a Macromedia product. It is very simple and codes the jsp pages automatically and with simple minor hand coding you can do most things that you want. It also interfaces quite easily with MYSQL and JSPs run on tomcat apache, which is also free and of course MYSQL is simple enough to set up. Macromedia will also code PHP equivalents, but I haven't tried it.
I could easily put together a JSP page to load data into a mysql table, but not sure about PHP. But then there has to be someone on here who can code in php? I believe it is on of the simplest languages to code web pages in and very quick.
I'm not sure how the administration is done for RS246, but could be easiest for now if someone were to run the registry on their own server initially then export/copy the data later.
By the way, what sort of database and server is RS246 using?
