Hi guys.

Am new to the forum.

Have had my RS4 for about 18 months now and ever since the first service by Audi it's never been right. Have now been to three different Audi dealers and no one has a clue about it. Misfires, unstable idle and lacking power.

Anyone else had similar problems or any advice as to what to do. Sill has warranty.

Sounds like a vacuum leak or faulty MAF, air intake sensor in English, but these should show up on Vag Com diagnosis system.

to diagnose if it is the MAF, try disconnecting the electrical lead on the MAF housing and run the car up the road. If things improve then your MAF is shot..

If 3 Audi stealerships have struggled. Then it would imply your car has something pretty tricky to diagnose and needs a real specialist. I had 8 months of trouble with my previous S4, 14+ visits to my local stealership and they never found found the prob. It was well worth driving 8 hours to AMD who fixed what a dealer couldn't and then went onto chip the car. In my opinion the guys who can write their own maps have the real indepth knowledge or capability to get right into these complicated beasties. So the likes of AMD, Mihena (spelling? A one man tuner on this site) Geoff Everet ex-AMD tuner, now freelancing or Revo's head office guys are possible canidates.

Got to agree with Golich my main agent is full of kids and i quickly worked out i know more about my car than they do,a specialist or tuner is the way to go mate,i had a similar amount of hassle sorting the wifes old golf gti turbo they replaced heaps off stuff and were just guessing luckily it was under warranty if not i would of been kicking off,it had a duff throttle position sensor but they changed all 4 ignitor packs cat/ turbo actuator/maf sensor etc etc

I agree with all the above postings. Kim Collins at qst had a look at my RS4 only on Tuesday and found a problem that Audi couldn't find (air leak caused by a split pipe to the diverter valve) - apparently the dealerships don't have some kit that the likes of qst consider essential/necessary.

Had the exact same situation....QST detected the same fault within 5 mins while Audi had the car for 3 days !!

While Kim is undoubtably a specialist and bloody good one at that. He doesn't write maps. So, IMHO he can't have the same knowledge to diagnose those REALLY tricky electronic type probs that someone who is able to break into the ECU and interrogate all the signals from the car, not just what the ECU defines as a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). Which quite frankly is just the tip of the ice berg. So many basic faults will not throw a DTC and it really is down to how good the tech is. Like so many proffessions there will always be good average and the downright incompetent.

That's not to say Kim couldn't fix your car, but you could take it to him and your car is the 1% REAL troublesome beastie that requires the VERY top man on it and you've just wasted a journey and £X? on diagnostic labour.

Strange, I would have thought all Audi garages would hold vacuum testing equipment to check the turbo systems and pipe work, especially with the amount of the vechiles in their line-up that has a turbo on it.... I know that Listers in Cov does as I had a similar break down when in the area visiting family, took the car into them on friday afternoon, diagoned the problem within an hour and ordered the part, had the car back to me sat morning 10 o'clock, even lent me a car for the evening to keep me mobile and that was the first time I had ever stepped foot in the place. Pretty please with the service I got tbh.

My experience of Listers, both Coventry and Worcester, is that they know a lot more than some of the smaller franchises, especially about the sportier models.

Thanks for all your input guys. already been to AMD and they changed the diverter valves but no change.......Think I will take it to Kim at QST as am interested in MTM conversion tio 458. Will keep you posted. Hope none of you have the same crap!!! Imran
