How easy is it to change the ECU, is it just a case of swapping them over ?

Also does anyone have a RS4 ECU with a MTM 458 map going spare they want to sell?

you can't just swap the ECU - you have to take care of the Immobiliser function on the ECU as well. Some tuners can swap the immobiliser code from one ECU to another so that you can use both.

BTW this 'Swapping' of the code involves desouldering the immo chip and then reading the relevant code off.

There is supposedly a better way of doing this, but I believe after a certain tuner carried this out software wise, this then left the car without an immobiliser!

Dare I suggest you talk to Mihnea at MRC about this :) as he has experience of doing this.

Yes this is what I believed as well. Audiworld has a tech artical on changing your ECU I've never read it completely.

Also there are a number of American tuners who offer their tuning service by getting you to send your ECU to them. So they must be getting around the technicalities of this? In fact, I'm sure AMD offer this service? It worth giving them a call.

You cannot just "swop them" but if you are on friendly terms with your dealer they will do it for you (my dealer has done two or three swops for people, usually someone selling and swopping a stage 1 back to normal)- involves a phone call to HQ no dodgy ECU's please

Mihnea will be doing a remap for me on a spare ECU for track day use.It will not have the immobiliser activated.I will simply change ECUs,remapped for track days, standard for normal street driving with security. He can read the immo chip data and reprogram another ECU,but for me,this means two weeks or so with the car off the road while I send both ECUs to him.Having the spare modded without immobiliser works for me.
