RS4 mudflaps....

Post by rs4-sson » Tue Mar 08, 2005 9:46 pm

Forgive the stupidity of this but....

Why doesn't the RS4 (b5) have mudflaps? I think that a nice pair of mudflaps on at least the rear axel would look absolutely mint (with a nice big RS4 logo of course)

When its wet, I get so :piss: with spray from the back wheels going up the tailgate and having to use the windscreen washer every 3 minutes (By the way, anyone notice their 5 litres or so of windscreen washer diasppear within half an hour or is it me?)

Anyway, I think that rear mudflaps would not only look the mutt's shiznitz but also immensely practical.

Anyone agree  or should I be reaching for the medication?

Mine did until I took it in and got the leak in the pipe fixed :D
Personally I think mud flaps look agricultural but no doubt you can now get some titanium ones with neon or xenon or something

No flaps available for the RS4, but I am sure somebody will prove me wrong.... the shape of the car does draw muck up the back, but try turning off the lights when you wash the front screen and save a few litres being thrown round the headlights

A coulple of points...

Had the 40,000 mile service last week (including cam belt change) and I asked the guy to check for a leak. He said there wasn't one. The idea of turning the lights off may well be the jackpot becuase in Sweden you are legally obliged to drive with your lights on at any time of the day. Therefore, the old headlight washers are always activated. Could well be the answer.

I think the right design of mud flap could set the car off nicely. Only found these so far - and they are minging....http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 67518&rd=1

If I was any good at Photoshop, I'd try and show you some of my ideas...never mind.

Just my opinion, but I think mudflaps would look nasty!...if you do it you may as well get some of those coloured windscreen wipers arms to finish off the look :D

I remember seeing an RS4 with mudflaps that looked stock. Personal preference if you want to fit some though.

I'd have flaps too if possible, as long as they weren't sodding great red ones !
OPr like the ones I saw on a scorpio the other day - complete with brake lights AND indicators

washed the car yesterday, drove 50 miles to work this morning and it is plastered already, and that is on a dry day !

RS4 SSon - are you an ex-Suburu or EVO owner? They seem to like MASSIVE mud flaps of contrasting colours round my bit. - Classy on a 100% road going car. Each to their own..

I'm positive I've seen a pic of an RS4 with front mud flaps and I'm fairly sure it is on this site - anyone? Have a look through the owner's gallery section.

PS I think they were subtle black ones on a red car and looked ok.

I'm sure DavidT or one of the Davids on the Audisport.net advertises he has mudflaps on his S4. The rear bumber is pretty much the same from a mudflap mounting perspective i.e. there is a lip to grip/self a mounting. Not sure how the fronts mount as the lip on the wing is covered by the plastic inner wing guard. I don't suppose this gaurd detail is much different from the rest of the A4s i.e. in that it is flush with the wing of course it is a different shape but still flush.

IIRC one of the Johns had mudflaps... Not JohnRoberts, JohnW, or RS4John, one of the others!!!

Actually, I had an RS4 in the UK and an S3 before that. I can't abide Scoobies or EVOs.  Funny actually that those guys think they drive the fastest cars in the world. I love to picture their faces when they are murdered off the lights by an "estate" carrying a tunble drier.....

OK, so I have a black RS4 with black mudflaps, made, I gather, as a one-off for the previous owner. Looks OK, but as far as I can tell they must do very little to reduce dirt etc on the rear door/screen. (Based on previous experience with an A4 Avant - the RS4 is significantly worse.)
