But ...

I need new rubber. I want Michelin PS2, but wow ! NZ$769 ! each.

From what i can see Goodyear F1 GS-D3 are almost as good, and at $469 each, they offer more value. I've heard of some news on delamination/melting on the F1's though. Any expereinece with GS-D3 F1's ?


Others considered would be:
Yoko AVS $699 each. Great tyre but still pricey.
Toyo T1-R. Not out in NZ yet. The older T1-S doesnt have a higher enough load rating for the RS4 at 90Y.
Continental Sport 2's $599 off memory. Not a bad tyre, but would it be the best ?

I've had the Toyo T1-S....wouldn't have them again.

Currently on PS2's....would definately have them again...although I may well try the Yokos next.

Yoko avs sport are a bit of a compromise tyre really.

Excellent grip in both wet and dry conditions with minimal tramlining (when new), problem is they dont last very long being so soft, and as they reach the end of their life become very noisy and tramline something terrible, although to be fair they all do to a certian extent when nearly knackered. You will also find the fronts will need replacing well before the legal markers in the tread as the inner shoulders would be running on canvas if you left them that long.

Prawn - I would keep a very close eye on the inner wall of your fronts running the settings that you are with the AVS tyres!

There is also suppose to be a new tyre just out from Yoko, the AVS DB (decibel). I'm told buy the local stockist that it's more of a touring tyre and is quiter than the former avs sport, I can only presume they will last a little longer too. Would have perhaps tried them, but only need two for the front and already had the sports on.

Keep well away....
Choose a tyre that really matches the typical conditions your car incures day to day.
I personally favour Bridgestone SO2s great wet tyre and suits our climate brilliantly,
although your climate maybe different , dryer conditions i would use as an everyday tyre
Yokohamas AVS without question....
The main thing to remember is that the RS4 is a heavy car, and the side walls of the tyre need to be strong.
otherwise they do collaspe under exessive use.

Do they still sell SO2's?

I put F1's on my RS4 recently and they are fab! I did enquire here beforehand and was warned away, but without enough details/reason/depth to make a bb poster my brief!

They are absolutely phenomenal in the wet and that is when you need it the most as generally any decent tyre is OK in the dry... £650 the 4...

I would agree with Diesel i had F1's could'nt fault them realy, only thing i found was on my mot, they failed due to a crack around the inside edge of both rear tyres. I'm currantly running Hankook's genraly ok but there nothing on the F1's in the wet, and we do get a lot of damp days up here in Jocklandshire i'll be getting F1's again when the Hankooks are worn
Oh when i change the tyres i had 14k on the F1's and would have done an other 5k + -

Personally I wouldn't mind the PS2s, but the other day I priced some P Zero Rossos for $600 AUS, since that's what I have at the momment...

while I was there I priced some Falkens

Only $220 AUS each!

That's less than £100!

Someone please tell me is there something seriously wrong with Falken tyres??

Myself and two friends are running Falken 502s on cossies (road and track use) nd they're good tyres - good grip and wear. They are cheap, but there's no comparison with other budget tyres. If I found them in the right size/load rating/price for my RS4 when my PS2s wear out, I'd fit them no probs.

I too run F1s and I've no problem with them. I'd like to try other tyres to compare as these are the only new tyres I've had on the RS. But I should state that they do not get cornered hard. 95% of there running is on dual carrageway or A/B roads with a mountain bike on the roof.

I run Pirelli Pzero Nero's on my TT and i'm extremely happy with them
