Some MTM Chip questions...

Recently I bought an MTM 458HP Chip (yes.. only the chip) from ebay(German). When I received the chip, I discovered that this is just a regular EEPROM chip, not something that MTM normally shipped(EEPROM chip with a decoder on the back). The German guy told me that is an MTM chip for sure..... but I really don't believe it.
Does MTM really ship RS4 chip without adding decoder on the back or I simply got fooled?
Please adviced..... I can handle the truth......
Also... Is MTM 420HP the same as MTM 458HP chip?

I don't know about the physical chip itself but the 458bhp code is written for better downpipes and freeflowing cats whereas the 420 is based on stock exhaust.

Think you will also find that there are different chips for each of the three ECU's which were used in RS4's.so you may find that even if it is the correct chip that it may not work in your particular ECU. I am sure there are better equiped people who frequent this forum who can advise you.

I would never buy any of these chips or ECU's that are offered on Ebay! but that doesn't rule out that they copied the chip (duplicater!!!)

EEEEKKKKK !!!!
MTM Chip on Ebay ? Mate, run away from that asap !
If you know a good mechanic in Taipei (and I have NO doubt there are), I'd recommend you place an order DIRECTLY to MTM for :
1. Full exhaust : sport catalyzers + intermediate/rear silencer
2. 458hp chip (which only works with the full exhaust).
and get your mechanic to install it.
If you have a doubt about the chip, you can fedex your ECU box to MTM and they'll do the right thing for you.

PS : don't go the cheap/shadow way on your RS4 engine, saving 2000 USD will cost you 15-20000 USD if you blow your engine.

Taipan is right -

You would have to be mad to to use a chip that you have no way of knowing what its parameters are set for. The 2.7 engine is a not simply a turn up the boost pressure type of deal. Get your money back or bin it.

15-20000 USD if you blow your engine
And the rest... Try 50,000 USD. The engine alone ishalf of that!!
