Insurance?

Post by rwoodward » Fri Nov 12, 2004 12:06 pm

Hi Guys..

Its that time of year again when the insurance renewal hits the mat, so i thought before i just sign my life away again id check round. Im with Admiral at the mo, and i've got 5 yrs clean accident free motoring though i need class 1 business. yet they're still wanting thick end of £650 a year!

Any recommendations? am i just being unrealistic?

Ross.

Ive rung around just about every company listed in the Yellow Pages and for me (30 yr old, married with 2 kids and 4 yrs no claims), best deal is elephant.co.uk (dont touch them with a bargepole though) at £824.93 and closely followed by Privilege (just over £840). Best after that is around £1k.

Privilege have a good reputation, so I'll be going with them once I get me a car!

What's wrong with Elephant?

elephant and admiral and diamond are all part of the same group i believe.. I've had admiral policies for years and had decent quotes, but not had to claim so dont know what their payouts are like. 5 yrs no claims this yr for the first time in my life! :)

I know a bunch of people who insured through Elephant. Two of them had claims within a month of each other early last year and they took AGES to sort it out. I won't insure my car through them now unless I hear something positive about them :(

I've got to say, Privilege are no better in my experience.

I was with them for my S3, they gave me a good price for the insurance, but when I was hit, they took for ever to try and contact the woman who hit me. It turned out she wasn't insured, and by the time they got their fingers out (six months after the accident) and actually sent an agent round to her address, she'd moved on with no forwarding address.

So thanks to them paying no attention to my weekly phone calls, plus the fact that Avon police "Don't pursue uninsured drivers"!!!!!!! She could not be found and I was left having to pay the £1000 bill to avoid having a claim against me (didn't really want that when looking to insure an RS4!

To be honest, all insurance companies are there to try and give you as little money as possible, and they do it by trying to string you along as much as they can - the drainage system at provident got totally blocked by one claims agant who flushed an entire case file down the toilet after unintentionally agreeing to pay out full value for a claim!!!

wow, that's a pretty cool site.

Nice to see that Masterquote would only want £5,300 for the honour of insuring me, as opposed to bell direct who want a whole £1000 - CRAZY!

£530 with Tesco. 33years old, Full No claims. Clean ticket. I think I put a £500 excess on the policy and my 37 year old girlfriend who cost me an extra £60? Full no claims one speeding offence 80 in a 70.

Brooner and FrankC are around the mid £400. But then we are up here in Sunny Aberdeen.
