[Q] Towbars and RS4's

I know it's a silly concept but I want to know if it is possible to fit a removeable Towbar to the RS4? I have had one on a MKIV Golf 1.8T and a Bora.

I don't want something that is permanent, as I only use it for the odd job.

Please be gentle with the responses....

Hi wrsquire,

I've just had a detachable towbar fitted to my RS4 which I am very happy with.

I used the part number that Jani kindly supplied (as referenced in the links above) and orderd the towbar kit from Westfalia via one of thier UK suppliers.

If interested, drop me a PM and I'll give you the details of thier supplier that I ordered it through, can also tell you who fitted it if your local to myself.

Cheers.

Sure can...

David Murphy Towing Brackets Ltd - 028 9081 2439

They are based in Belfast, but through them, the supplier (Westfalia) will send the towing kit direct to any address.

Hope that helps.

I know Carryduff is technically part of Belfast now............but it isn't really. They are also Brink agents, and if beat, will manufacture something for you from scratch. Have supplied all my towbars for years.

Andy, what was the cost?

If I remember right it was approx £180 all in and delivered to my door, very reasonable and a qulaity bit of kit it is too. Once removed its invisible and very stealthy 8)

Prior to going down this route I did actually manage to find a UK Audi dealer to finally give me a quote to fit (the exact same) towbar, although this was a painful experience as most main dealers said there wasn't one, anyway the quote to supply/fit was £700 + VAT  Nice little earner I guess.

Andy,

sorry to be a pain but any chance of a couple of photos ?
I'd like to see a pic with the drawbar in pace and removed if possible.

I see Jani says no cutting is needed, which is great.
Where are the electrics - hinged down from behind the bumper skirt ?

Sorry for the questions, but at 180 it sounds a bargain I just might have to take up ;)

Cheers,
John.

Jani has some good pics of the towbar in his gallery referenced in the link given above which is also here: http://www.rs246.com/modules/pnCPG/Copp ... ?album=195

There does seem to be some cutting of the bumper required, but it is a very neat installation regardless. Its also not that often that the solution to a particular problem is available through someone in Northern Ireland, so that makes it even more worth considering for me.

Hi John,

As per the link to Jani's photos, you can see the towbar attached and unattached, you really can't tell its there when unattached. You even get a nice pair of gloves to stop your hands getting dirty and pouch to put the towbar in when removed :D

The electrics are on a bracket that swivels up/down, so again invisible when up.

There is a small bit of cutting required in the bumper, as in Jani's pictures, but not noticeable unless you crouch under the car. I actually took Jani's picture with me to the guy that fitted the towbar to ensure the cut was the same.

I'd certainly recommend this towbar, very pleased (so far) with it.

Cheers.
