Hi,
Any recommendations for Exhaust and ECU upgrade without making my nice QUIET car NOISY? Currently I'm being recommended Milltek Turbo back sports system and Superchips ECU upgrade.
Hope you can help.

The Sportec exhaust is far more soothing to the ear than the Miltek. Who in the hell recommended Superchips!!!!! Looks like you have a load of reading to do... Recommend you have a dig through some of the posts regarding tuners and come back with some options and we can discuss.

:jump: ha ha ha I couldn't have said it better myself Phil.

Don't take it the wrong way siwebb we mean well. - looks like you have a bit reading to do.

PS the Milltech option is fine, but not the only one. PS CAT back waste of money IMHO unless you need a new exhaust or you want to change the note 8)

Like PhilT said there is loads of chat and opinions on this - Your best having a trawl through the posts using the search engine. (It's very good). You'll learn a lot more than anything I can put down. You need to READ my post more carefully.

CAT BACK. But that's just my opinion based on MY experienece with Milteck not supplying me one on the basis that if following a before and after dyno run at one of their dealers it didn't produce up to 5bhp on my chipped S4 (i.e. 1.5% HP gain) I wanted my money back.

They declined despite a bit of initial chat. But hey there are guys on here and other forums that swear they get more power. Others report better throttle response which I'm more inclined to go with. Don't get me wrong its a quality exhaust and it would probably be my first choice if and when I need a new CAT back section but I wouldn't bother with the CAT back alone I'd go for the the whole system CATS etc.

Incidentally, who recommended Super chips?

The main chip guys for RS4 are: (in no particular order)
AMD
MTM
Sportec
Revo
Outenger - or something like that.
ABT - not sure if they do a remap for the RS
There was one other who were cheaper than everone around £800 I think.... Moteck??? I think it is Scotts?? who offer this. Really not sure though. They did a track day demo early this year and an article in Audi Driver?

There are a couple of others but I forget...

What about MTM, how loud or quiet is it compared to those 2? I'm in the same boat, I'd like a full exhaust, but don't want it to be boomy or loud except possibly on full throttle.

My Milltek cat-back is pretty noisey to be honest, but not annoyingly so. It does encourage you to give it more beans to listen the the yowl as the revs rise :D The car sounds mean at small RPM, then keeps on coming
I have Sportec software via AmD - who only use Sportec s/w for the RS4 IIRC. Oettinger claim to get 430BHP from stage one chip, and being typically German and TUV approved, I'm sure they must get it. I have not been in one of their cars though.

DMS also can supply serial port software, so don't forget those guys.

Cheers

Ben

You wont go wrong with MTM, but you'll pay for it.

The net result is if you want a basic power upgrade, stick with chip alone (~420hp). Skip the next step which is Cat back exhaust upgrade, as its not worth the money. The next step is hi-flow cats, DP, and Full exhaust, with matched Chip(~460hp). It will be noiser though.

Good luck !

Don't forget Wetteraurer. I have no problem with it and it has a nice flat torque curve

I have mtm and Milltek cats back and I must say I am very happy.....yes it is more noisy but not in a boy racer with a baked bean can way. On the Gumball a lot of people remarked that it sounded like the Porsches.......which for me is just right.....

Wetterauer has never had an RS4 on his dyno. I know it, period.

my car has Revo upgrade good cost for it and Milltek cat back and dynos at around 423 so not bad, torque is good as well, the one thing is the exhaust can be a little noisy if you are in a high gear at low revs, but all said it worth it for the lovely burble when you boot it..

Hi guys I new to the forum but thought I would throw in my 2 cents from down under.(NZ).I have just fitted the Milltek "racing" system to my Imola Yellow RS4.This eliminates the resonated centre section, but is still a cat back.Surprisingly it is not too loud, with a nice deep burble at idle which turns into a subdued scream at full throttle. No dyno test,so its not easy to tell if there is any more power.A 7-10Kw increase for a motor that puts out 280Kw would hardly be noticable via my seat of the pants dyno!Throttle response does feel more sharp, but the exhaust is really only the first step.A chip is next.I will be fitting an MRC Developments chip (Mihnea Cotet) as so far,I have had flawless performance using Mihneas chips on previous cars.None of the peakiness of MTM or detonation problems experienced with some of other "reputable" chips I have tried.I will let you know when I have tested it and post some dyno results.Oh,and I will remove the cats as well,as at this time we have no legislation requiring them here in NZ.
