My green machine

Post by bobjebb » Wed Sep 01, 2004 11:47 pm

My first post.. please be gentle with me..

Just taken delivery of X661DDU from Smith Knight Fay Audi, and have been more than happy with the car. (30kmiles 30k quid)

However, there is definately a panel issue between wing and door. (Gap too small) SKF say that it HAS had a new wing and the door has been off to eliminate a rattle.

Can one of you suggest the best way of finding out for sure what has been added/removed/fixed? Just so my mind is at rest? Perhaps foolishly didn't take an HPI, but was assured that they wouldn't deal it an RS4 with poor history, and it was always a SKF car, so I accepted that. As I said I love the thing, so probably just paranoid...

2ndly, the car has 2 variable services stamped in the service book - and the next not due for 7k miles. Initially I thought this wasn't enough but Wimbledon Audi say this is absolutely fine and it indicates that motorway driving has made up much of the mileage... Should I have another, for good measure?

Sorry to whitter, but you know how it is...

Thanks!

For the history, look at the V5 and drop the previous owner a call. Also you can ask Audi for a printout of of the car's history.

As for the variable servicing.. They tended to last about 12k miles for me as I hike up and down motorways all the time, so two at 30k sounds about right. I'm moving on to fixed servicing now.

Hello and welcome to the forum :bigwave:

Where are you located, and can I assume from the post title your car is Goodwood Green? Is it standard or modded?

Phil is of course correct, but I guess if that doesn't work you could always swing by a local bodyshop for a friendly chat and get their opinion?

Variable servicing sounds OK. As a lot of my driving is city centre mine tend to come around every 8k or so, so motorway driving bringing it up every 12k sounds very plausible. Prepare yourself for a big bill though as I'd have thought at 37k you might want to do the belts (as required at 40k)?

Thanks guys... Yup Goodwood green which I actually really like as a colour, which I think goes against the norm, seems more understated. Nice with the silver leather interior too. Although I'd love the deep blue one that I saw at Poole Audi recently. It's (I nearly called it a 'she', damn I'll be growing a beard next) completely standard at the mo and in fab condition, (except the panel discrepancy!) enjoying every minute of it. Had a fabulous drive to Scotland from SW london armed with a snooper S4...

Not looking forward to the timing belt bill... but I only do 4-5k mls a year, so I'll start saving.

By the way - mine has no sat nav, and bose symphony - I might look into upgrading, do you recommend trying to source another RS4 unit, or get another type fitted? Have any of you replaced what's already there or perhaps it's a non starter?

Cheers

Whereabouts in SW London are you? I'm in Fulham......

Re SatNav I'd say retrofitting the Audi unit would be the way to go. For enlightenment check out the Electrical forum and the tvwizwebsite.

Just to add to bobjebb original post , I bought the car from bob way back then, owned the car ever since, I think there was probably reason to wonder about the front wing not looking to fit correct , as i have recently found out that the car has had some damage to the rear quarter aswell, and although it lasted a long time ,
The rear arch was repaired with filler , and in some places was about 1" thick , moisture got behind it and blew it off , so is this something that the Audi dealer tryd to hide ? , also the front wing is bubbling with rust , I thought these cars didn't rust , how do i go about finding the extent of what was clearly an accident damaged car at 30k miles sold by an Audi dealership

Bad news. Especially as the panels are becoming impossible to get. I believe that CF replicas are available from Europe for the fronts so that is probably a great option for your weather. From memory they had a 12 year perforation guarantee so nothing about no rust, just more resistant. After all these years I would imagine getting any answers would be near on impossible.
