Amazing Insurance quote

I have just been quoted £467 by Admiral. What's the catch? Last year I was with Elephant at £640 and that was down from £900 the year before.

I'm suspicious.

They obviously need the business.
I'm sure Jon will give the specifics.

I'm with Elephant at the moment and pay not much more than £700 - and my car sits out on the street in a shitty postcode

Accept it quickly

Obviously you havent disclosed your mods BEN?
With a sportec chip and stuff i think you will find its a considerable amount more, be sure as these buggers will have you if a claim is done.. be safe and check and get it in writing.
Cheers

ps. currently paying £1900 with all mods listed, 44 yrs old and 60% no claims in a low risk post code area.

Ahem, the Sportec is covered and only cost £85 more. As it is a 10% increase in power, then the first bracket of engine chips (0-10%) applies. If you go into the 11-25% engine chip bracket then you get shafted. At this point it's best to go with a mod friendly insurer.
Apart from that the car is standard - for the moment. The Milltek is due in the next couple of weeks and I think this adds about £30 to the annual premium. Brakes are about the same as well. It's the chip stuff they don't like. Seeing as DP's and cats are part of the exhaust, loosly speaking, that will only cost the £30 extra that I'll pay for the Milltek. Nice :D

Thanks for your concern though John

Cheers

I don't know about you guys, but I have never managed to get my insurer to provide a statement on my certificate that the car is covered including the mods. I have to rely on the various letters I have to demonstrate it if necessary.

Maybe I've had bad experiences, but I just don't trust insurance companies. In general those of us with modded cars are paying four figure premiums. So where it is a lot less I smell a rat.

In Ben's case his only worry is that after adding expensive mods such as a Miltek system, if the car is written off, Elephant will only pay up for a standard RS4.

That's a risk I'll have to take Dippy. But to be honest, if the car is written off, the Milltek would be the least of my worries.
If like some of you guys I'd spent 10's of thousands on the car, then I'd be a lot more concerned.
£2k is an extraordinary amount of money to be spending on insurance, bearing in mind that between 50 and 75% of that figure is just to cover mods - thieving b@stards!

Cheers all,

Ben

In 2001, I was quoted £3200 for my then new RS4 in Norhtern Ireland, was quickly reduced to £1900. I always thought mainland was much cheaper

I think you have the wrong end of the stick Ben, it's not that they won't replace the mod's if you don't declare them.....They won't repalce the car!

I was talking about replacing the cost of the mods with people like Admiral etc. I have/will declare(d) the mod(s) but I was just saying that I wasn't really worried about them refunding the extra few hundered quid that the exhaust had cost me.
There's no way I'll take a big risk like not declaring stuff on a £35k car

Cheers
