This evening at 6:30 pm 5 men in balaclavas and baseball bats entered my property and stole my RS4.

I know this is not the first time this has happened but needless to say I'm pretty shaken and angry.

Although they acted in a very intimidating manor they didn't need me to give them the keys, they just needed me in the house and out of the way.

It would appear they had their own key cut in advance.

I can only piece together how they did this, but the driver's door lock barrel was smashed off the car 4 weeks ago in Birmingham Airport, I think they must have had a key made up from the barrel details.

There is a tracker fitted, but the helicopter can not go up in the rain, so I just have to wait and see.

In the unlikely event anyone sees a de-badged Goodwood RS4 in the West Midlands area, do please let me or the police know.

I'll let you know progress as I find out.

Sorry to hear this mate, but it seems to be becoming something of a regular occurence.

Does anyone know why these cars are so popular?

My mate works for Subaru and tells me that the majority of Subaru thefts are for commiting robberies etc with a quick getaway car. Is this the same for RS's or do they get shipped abroad?

Whatever the case, it is obviously a worry for all owners.

Just good news that no-one seems to have been physically hurt up to press.

Does anyone know why these cars are so popular?

If would be robbers read rs246.com i doubt they would bother with RS4,s...Turbos pack in faster than the Iraqi army!

I would also like to pass on my best wishes and hope that you recover from the shock.
As a side note, even if they had copied a key, unless they had access to programming kit the key should not have worked as they are coded individually for the immobiliser, this question needs to be directed to Audi Technical having just spent a small fortune having a key replaced and an old key reprogrammed to render the stolen key useless.

Sorry to hear about this, it must have been terrible for you. I couldn't imagine the distress it would cause the other half it it happened to her.

Hope all works out well in the end and Tracker comes up trumps (chances are the thieves will have got rid of the unit by now).

Sorry to hear the bad news.
I got a letter through the post from West Yorkshire Police, via Audi, high lighting this type of incident. The letter had advice about trying to stop this type of thing from happening to myself as the driver of an RS4. Did anyone else get such a letter?

As to the issue on getting a key cut and having to get it programmed for a car I have a comment. When I purchased my car I was given a PLASTIC key to keep in my wallet. This key is NOT programmed for my car and it works.

Sorry to hear about your loss AndyRS4 - theft always makes you feel angry and violated - still at least the police are on it....oh no they aren't they are sitting behind cameras catching you amd me.

Good point Tanoga about the plastic key - but I think it will only open the door, not start the car.

Maybe a code to start the car is better - they would have to torture you to get it...perhaps not !

Sorry to hear about your ordeal, but as others have said at least you are unhurt. A car can always be replaced.

Perhaps the tracker will come up trumps for you.

Hope you get it or a suitable replacement reasonably quickly. There is no doubt that on occassions such as this you tend to feel that normal punishment is just no enough for these b******s.

The police and tracker have located the car in a lockup in Birmingham, I haven't seen it yet, crime scene detectives get the first look on Monday morning, but it sounds like the interior has been given a good going over while they were looking for the tracker.

Fortuneatley this time neither of us were hurt, but I'm not sure I can take the risk of this happening again. I have to seriously consider whether I am prepared to remain the owner of such a desirable car.

MW had the same treatment but tried his best to stop them,and ended up with 30 odd stiches for his trouble, but they didnt take the car.
Dont let it put you off owning the car, its a isolated incident in the W Mids area, but i personally would urge you to use better deterrants.
Yeah its weird that we got those letters the other day about the Key thing to original RS4 owners.
Seems like news is spreading fast and time to keep the shotgun under the bed.
