Which exhaust upgrade....

Post by TimJMS » Sun Feb 09, 2003 11:53 am

of the options available,(catalytic converters aside) such as Hayward & Scott, Milltek, MTM and Quattro Sports, is the one to go for when planning future large horsepower increases on the RS4 engine, while still remaining within the legal noise limits for trackday purposes?

Cheers

Not sure about Hayward & Scott, but the Miltek system is the AmD/Quattrosports/MTM offering over here. Not sure if MTM have their own system yet or just downpipes.

Thinking about getting some work done Tim

Hi Tim

I have used H&S lots of times and have found them helpful on all occasions - the only downside is that they do not have access to computers and dynos and therefore cannot guarantee increases in hp.
There workmanship is excellent and they fit each system to your car thus no annoying clonks from the pipes hitting bodywork.
They quoted me £500 for a cats back system with a tailpipe of my choice.
Still pondering I'm afraid

Guys
Be very careful not to confuse the Miltek with the MTM exhaust or the Quattro Sports with the MTM exhaust.
The MTM exhaust is custom made in Germany by a specialist manufacturer to MTM's exclusive design. The Miltek exhaust is not an MTM exhaust, even if it looks as if it is. The exhaust sold by Quattro Sports is only an MTM exhaust if it has been supplied by MTM in Wettstetten. In the past the situation was otherwise. I even know of one manufacturer that uses the MTM logo on its web site; some might be mislead by that!
There is a lot of confusion in this area. Remember, because a company sells one MTM product, it does not mean that all the products they sell are MTM products, I'm not pointing any fingers here, but if you want to ruin a nice lunch with Roland Mayer, just bring up this topic.
Shortly I hope to be able to show some pictures of the new RS6 exhaust with downpipes and metal cats.

Like I said, I'm not too sure if the current UK MTM offering is still Miltek or MTM exhaust

I know JR's MTM is Miltek as is RS4Steve's - maybe it's hard to get hold of or too expensive?

I am led to believe that MTM are getting them made by Scorpion, but kim tells me that Miltek built and designed all the MTM ones, but due to a cost issue,MTM sought a different manufacturer.
Robin is it true that Herr Mayer gets upset about such things? Perhaps he should understand that people have to make a living... and that there is allways someone who will under cut another manufacturer, even if its worse.. I have seen this MTM exhaust and its not a patch on the MiLtek.
Also Peter Millington is one of the most helpful people i have spoken to, and is very pasionate about his product.
Surely Kim would sell the MTM one if it were better... on the other hand i would imagine that moving exhaust systems around europe is quite expensive too!
Just onne other thing.. when we went to Germany it was evident that MiLtek was nnot distrubuted in Germany.. can you guys remember Carl wanting to buy that one i had S/H.

Yep. Thinking of having some work done.... the wheel/suspension mods have given me the taste, and now I WANT MORE!!!

Chances are we will be waiting two more years for the next RS4 to arrive on our shores. That is a LONG time for any of us to be owning the same car. Its a shame in a way that Quattro GmBh dont themselves offer a programme of taking owners cars back in for retrofitting of bespoke, proven, benchmarked, performance enhancements.

I'll have the Direct shift gearbox, (Hmmmmmmmmmm ) another 150bhp, and the weight reduction programme with Hi-Tec/leather trimmed full rollcage, please.

Go for it Tim

You wouldn't believe the weight you can save by replacing the front seats and getting rid of the wellies from the back

MTM gets upset by something called Rip-off. MTM's exhaust is NOT made by Skorpion. What happens in the UK is different to the rest of the world. The truth of the situation with MTM exhausts in the UK depends on who you talk to. There are some exhausts in the UK which have MTM on the tail pipes which MTM know nothing about.
I have seen the work that is done to produce the MTM exhaust for the RS6 here in Germany, it is very impressive indeed. However, I doubt that many people in Britain will be able to afford it!

The one I did put into my car, is made by REMUS and consist of two parts the back muffler and the racing pipe that goes in the middle instead of the muffler. So you actually have only one rear muffler instead of the two.

I have the stock cats, but I did change the down pipes for the racing pipe from REMUS, that runs all the way down to the rear muffler also Romulos made by REMUS. Right now I'm thinking of taking the cats out, but some friend told me that, if I do that, the oxygen sensor behind the cats is going to have a wrong reading. I haven't check if the RS4 have that extra oxygen sensor behind the cats.

The pictures of the exhaust system, I can not put in, I believe they are to big.
