RS4 Day in Brazil

End last month went to Brazil to see some friends, some very special friends . Here´the cenary, three friends that live in Brazil, and all of them have RS4, isn´t this unique
Well, they were fantastic with us, always trying to impress us as much as they could with those terrific three beasts. We made a trip of 500Km in one day, 400Km of them in highway and the rest in a wonderful and beautiful mountain road.
I´ve already driven fine cars like the BMW M5, 996 Carrera, 996 Carrera Turbo, 300Hp Boxster, 993TT, Porsche 996 GT3, so I saw the RS4 as a luxury station car with a big engine with lots of power and nothing more...well, I WAS WRONG.
Two of the RS4 were stock (green and black) and yellow one had 440Hp. Now lets go to the road.
On the highway the 440HP RS4 would smoke easily the other two stock cars and we could be driving at 250/260Kph, with three people on board having a relaxed conversation, simply amazing. We were making constatly side by side accelaration tests from 150Kph above, and the Yellow car would always get in front of the other two. Then we went to a mountain road, and that ride changed the way I view the RS4 forever. The mountain road was some how bumpy with lots of small water lines crossing the road. I was on the green RS4 and the guy started to push as much as he could. I couldn´t believe my eyes, we were making curves at 130Kph on bumpy roads with water on the midle and the RS4 was like riding on rails, only one car gave me such sensation, and it was the 996 Turbo, all the others on the same conditions would slide the front and the back, and you had to back up to keep the car on the road, but with the RS4 the guy just keep his foot on the accelarator and the car was like on rails, unbelieveble, the front and the back were playing together and I was inside without a ratlle siting on those great Recaro seats having lots of fun. These cars are amazing, they have the best of both worlds, a confort ride with lots of space, and an engine that has lots of power to play with, it´s like havind an Audi and a Porsche on the same car
On our way back there was a situation that impressed me most, the three RS4 were at 280Kph, there was a curve a mile ahead and he kept going on the inside line at 280Kph. Than we hit the curve and it kept the car on the inside line, I though "he wont make it" on the midle of the curve when I though that he was going to pass from the inside line to the outside line so that he could keep the car on the road, there was rigth on the midle of the road a lazy car cruising at maybe 120Kph, although it seemed like he was doing 10Kph , I thought "OK we´re done"....well, we made the curve at 280Kph on the inside line and the RS4 not even complained about it. I never thought a RS4 could handle like that, like if there was a hand grabbing the top of the car all the time, it´s really incredible what those engineers at Quattro manage to do, they made a cocktail very hard to beat.
The one and only Junior4 (how are you doing mate) let me drove his car. I didn´t like the gearbox, to sloppy, and the engine sound is not that apealling. Driving position is correct and you have always lots of power to play with, but what really impressed me most was the way this car handle and it´s balance. Maybe on 90º curves you can feel the weight, but on large mountain curves and on the highway, is hard to find another car on the same league that can keep with it, even in stock form, but if you tune the engine like my friend RS4Imola did, I believe that only high end Porsche and stuff like that can keep with it, and it cost less than half those cars cost, you can´t have better.
I have to say that I still prefer a Porsche 996 to an Audi RS4, it´s just a matter of taste, the 996 is all about engine sound, glamour, terrific sport handling, great image and looks and be able to own a mitical car, but the RS4 is also a unique car that combines what I though it couldn´t be possible to have in just one car, power, confort handling, build quality and so on, for all this I´ll take my hat to AUDI, Congrats AUDI.
One last word just to say that my friends from Brasil were like 5 stars guys, they gave us a time we wont forget, THANK YOU GUYS, YOU WERE FANTASTIC WITH US....RS4Imola, Junior4 and Uilton, you are the ones
