is it just me or do ppl experience tramlining in the rs4?
by this i mean ur driving along and u hit some grooves and the car moves sideways while the steering wheel jerks around.
is it the size of the tyres, the quattro system, do i need a wheel alignment, etc

What tyres are you running? I had huge problems with Dunlop SP9000.

Chances are it's you tyres, and if you have Pirelli P-Zeros fitted, it's definitely your tyres...they're crap. [img]images/graemlins/smirk.gif[/img]
I had exactly the same problem, especially under braking. I had the wheels laser-aligned and it made no difference.
I then changed to Michelin Pilot Sport 2s and the difference was incredible, it was like driving a different car. They are also smoother and quieter [img]images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

It's the effect of driving a 4 wheel drive with wide tyres.

Ever drive a front wheel drive with a limited slip diff? - same thing.

so r u saying that with any tyres on it there would be no difference?
i got p zero rossos on it, the car came with them when i bought it.
i guess ill check out the pilot sports or the S02's when i get new tyres.

Tramlining also a byproduct of worn tyres. I recently replaced my MPS1s with new MPS1s, all tramlining instantly gone [img]images/graemlins/thumbs.gif[/img]

It's pretty bad on mine with S-03s. I don't remmeber it being a problem when I had Pilot Sports on there.

It's those bloody part worn P zeros - they're rubbish.

I noticed them the very momement I drove my now 1month owned beast [img]images/graemlins/clap.gif[/img].

See further down for comments some of the lads on here have mad ein the past. I got these by searching through the posts.

I used to notice a marked decline in the response of the the rear suspension in my previous S4. Traveling over certain pot holes gave the sensation something was wrong with the back of the car. I had a four wheel alingment done and it checked out fine.

Changing to new tyres made a huge difference. Also swapping to RS4 suspension improved it again.

As for whether the quattro is to blame. I doubt it, as the last time I felt tramling was 10 years ago in my Ford Orion injection on cheap tyres. My mates at the time also complained of tramlining. Clearly some tyres with less than new tread are prone to it.

Not sure how people feel about this but it seesm that the S03 are a superior tyre to some of the tyres that alledgedly meet the requirement

Really really rate the Michelin Pilot Sport 2's expensive but seem really well suited to our greasy wet scottish roads best tyres for the standard 18's IMHO. Didn't really rate the dunlops much over the pirellis either.

It's the Pirellis. I had the same and changed to Goodyear F1's and the prob immediately went away.

i have part worn pilot sports and cant compare to any other tyres as i have only driven the rs4 on these.i can relate to some steering pull over bumps,pot holes ect.which can seem to throw you off course and makes the steering go very light and hard to keep straight.
i can only assume there is either a damper which needs replacing regularly or it is just a characteristic of the rs which can be improved or worsened depending which tyres are used. [img]images/graemlins/rant.gif[/img]

but slow to reply , but I have the same problem with the p zeros and when I swap to winter wheels it goes away.

I have run Goodyear F1's on 19" rims for the 12 months and found them to be excellent.
