Winter tyres!

Post by Conti » Fri Dec 12, 2003 6:21 pm

My dad is running ContiWinterContact 790 V on his RS4.
As MartinH said already handling on Winter tyres on an RS4 is not the best.
What tyres would you go for?
Do you agree on my statement? (experiences?)

Thanks for answering!

It's a "225/40 R18 92V Extra Load M+S" just like recommended by Audi in the car's manual. So that "V" makes it 240km/h, right?

Jr, it's my dad of course. I'm 15 now still two years to go for the licence!

Anybody having tested one of these (or both) tyres?

I have the Dunlops and they are good, but the M2 version is rather old, and the new M3 is not available in Extra Load (92). Latest tyre reviews for R17 and R18 say Pirelli W240 Snowsport is best.
What's that?

I had a set of the Pirelli Snowsport on my 911. Used to use them in Jan & Feb predominantly and they made the car driveable/steerable on snow & ice. They were also about the only option my local dealer could source in a reasonable time. You do need to take care though if the conditions are good, and they generate quite a lot of road noise.

Just got two new front tyres (some silly nail that suddenly crossed the road, couldnot evade it).
Audi service centre put 2 Michelin Pilot Sports. However, the type ends with 90V * whereas behind I have 94Y Extra Load. Have they fitted the rights ones? According to Michelin they may be "too light", but they are not sure. Anyone gimme some advice here?
