Did you use
toyguymod@hotmail.com ?
I'm thinking of one if i cant sort my sticky UUC out.
The Audiworld boys rate it as the best.

Cannot post anywhere else because of problems logging in but I saw one of the RS4 posts about someone thinking about ordering a quickshift from this guy. I ordered and paid for products from this guy months ago and have not received them. After initial excuses (many) he is now not replying to my emails at all. BEWARE.

Just for clarification for anyone intersted here, the ToyGuy mod is not the same as the Tanoga short-shifter. In fact the ToyGuy one is purely a mod to the original short-shift mechanism , NOT a complete new unit as per the Tanoga

IMHO the ToyGuy shifter is NOT the best out there, but it IS the cheapest (if you can get hold of the guy !) The Tonoga or UUC are the best and have a good following. Probably easier for you to get hold of the UUC down there !
Good luck - you will wish you did it sooner !

There are plenty of US guys that would say otherwise. From browsing audiworld, i think the guy had PC's problems, and lost a bunch of email. So if he didnt reply to you, email him again. PS, yes he bases his mod's on the std shifter, but he does more than drill a few holes, and he does replace selected bits (the ball i think).

Gentlemen ... Toy Guy (Craig) is an honest guy with solid reputation, though has been hard to connect with at times. He recently had a PC failure and was off-line for nearly a week, with no access to email or the Net (I talked with him personally via telephone). I'm sure the international aspect of communication doesn't make it any easier.
As for his product, which is a modified OE shifter, it is highly regarded in the States by S4 owners and oft refered to as the best short shifter on the market ... this by many who switched from other SS products to the Toy Guy mod. Tanoga held a place atop the short-shifter market here for some time, but it's hard to argue with an OE part modified to work properly (like it should have from the factory) and at the price Craig charges. I'm installing one in the next week or two myself.
Just thought I'd chime in ... now where are those flyers?!
Cheers

Have you tried any others? I have, UUC, Tanoga, Strat and Toy Guy. I ordered my TG shifter on Monday. UUC left metal shavings all over the place and was notchy, Tanoga needs a spacer on the bottom and still wasn't as smooth as the TG. I've seen the shifter when he installed one on a car in my town. Nice craftsmanship, shorter throws and butter smooth. I don't know what more you could ask for.
I have his V1 remote display and have met Craig a couple of times. Great guy, great products. He's probably away for Thanksgiving this week.

competition is healthy. Its somewhere that all the unreasonable and difficult customers can go to.

Frank, a modded OEM shifter will never be as good quality as a CNC machined item ?? They are popular cos they are much cheaper and are an improvement over the std shift. If you suffered from metal shavings with a UUC, then someone didn't fit it right
p.s. welcome to RS246

Nige_S4: have you tried the Toy Guy shift mod? Have you tried it in depth? The reason why I ask is because if you did, I doubt you would be saying the Tanoga is better. With respect to the B5 S4, I've tested just about every short shifter on the market: Toy Guy, Tanoga, UUC at 20%/30%/40%, Neuspeed, B&M, and Stratmosphere. Each time the shifter was properly installed with all the recommended bearings/spacers and the best was the Toy Guy shifter mod followed by the Tanoga.
While the Tanoga had a shorter throw, the Toy Guy mod was more precise and there was less play. The other remaining shifters are good too but not as good as the Toy Guy and Tanoga. FYI, the UUC is smoothest at 30%.
The key the short shifters is proper installation and lubing with lithium grease or its equivalent.
