Tyres For The RS4

Have just completed the track day at Castle Coombe. Won't tell you which car I was driving, but got a bit carried away though. Fried the brakes and made jelly out of the tyres

Which brings me to the question, which should start most of you going, which are the best tyres for the RS4 and why???

I just don't require grip, wet and dry, I want a bit of longevity as well. Sound is also important as I do a few long continental trips with wife in passenger seat.

Toyo T1S = Best bang per buck IMHO. I have a guy in Cresswell that will sort them out for you.

Can't believe you were at CC, meant to go over and have a chat with all the RS2/4/6 drivers. Oh well, another day I suppose....

Too busy working for Revo I heard!!!!!!! On the payroll now?

Anyway back to the topic

I have tried
Dunlop SP9000 - noisy and tram line
Pirelli P Zero - only lasted 3900 miles
Michellin Pilot Sport - good all rounder lasted 15k miles and 1 track day (my favourite of the lot and had 3 sets, would like to try Pilot Sport 2's, but too bloody expensive!!!)
Toyo T1-S - good all rounder lasted 11k miles and 1 track day

Now got being fitted as we speak Yokohama AML and will let you know how i get on with these

Good luck with your choice

Did a lot of walking around at CC, took some good video, including an off road excursion in a TT. Even did the Revo stand!!!

Has anyone tried the Avon ZZ3, the cops use them around here on the T5, as they used to get through the Goodyears in one persuit.

Many of the RS2 and S6+ french owners seem to be fans of the Bridgestone S02 and S03, in preference to the national pride of Michelin Pilot Sport.
(can't tell about RS4 owners cause the only ones I met are either UK or DE based which isn't saying I'm disappointed by that )

Notice from your profile that you don't have a brake upgrade, did you go on the track, and did your brakes stand the test of time and laps? Most of the Avus Silver cars had different systems as I remember so cannot recall seeing yours, unless you can give me part of the reg!!!

I can remember those???

Mine was the only red RS4 there so you might have seen me!!!

Heard good things about the Avon but never tried them

Also I believe a few people have tried the Conti Sports?

Bridgestone S02 Pole Position: Fantastic tyre, but a year or more out of production and therefore hard to find.

Hi Dave,

I have the S-03's which were very good up to a point. Have done a bit of track racing, years ago, part of the Golf Gti 16v thing, ended up have one of the first Golf Gti's 16v's which we then had a supercharger and all of the ABT kit put on, but thats going back 18 years.

By the time the brakes had given up th ghost, I had to start turning in early into the corners to scrub off speed, this is when the tyres started to fall apart.

The Rs4 is a heavy car, and I don't expect to use it like that every day, but am gutted not to be able to make the Germany trip with the lads.

Just wanted to get the best option, miles, grip and low noise.

I'll get a separate set of wheels for the next track day, and new brakes (which I am looking into at the mo!!!) then I can have some fun If it's a bit wet even more fun although my passenger won't be there, as he started of being a cool cat, but buy the third session wanted to be a pussy and put a helmet on.I only got close to the green stuff, not on it!!! There is of course the old load rating discussion!

Basically for those who do not know my understanding is as follows;

Audi request to comply with the bendy wheel thing that we use 94Y load index, SO3's and Toyo only offer 90Y rating for the standard 255 35 18 rims

Not sure how people feel about this but it seesm that the S03 are a superior tyre to some of the tyres that alledgedly meet the requirement

Cheers

I've been running goodyear egale f1's, so far got 9k and a track day and still look good for another 8-9k. There was some rumore of the tread coming off but i've not heard any more, good grip wet and dry and £170 a tyre quite good value too

Oh yeah the Goodyeah F1's, sorry forgot about them

Basically did about 6k miles with them and the tread started coming away around the centre of the tread, got a refund as apparently the heat built up was causing the rubber to separate

Although they promised it was nothing to worry about!!!

I'm running the Yoko AVS's (same as Tim) and I have to say I'm impressed thus far. Indeed less noisy that the Dunlops and far better wet grip and predicatable in the dry.

I have a minor rubbing issue on the off side front but pretty sure that due to the crap suspension which will be sorted soon.

Agree with Thorney on the Yoko's - very good all round tyre, far better than the Dunlop Sp9000 and the Pirelli's I've had before.
