Swap RS4 for S4
Swap RS4 for S4
Dealer on the phone trying to persuade me (having failed with the RS6) to trade in the RS4 for an S4. He says lots of people are doing it !! Far better car, he says, but then he is a salesman
Standard RS4 (is it the only standard one left?)

Gotta feel sorry for Audi salesmen at the moment.
They know they have nothing in their armoury to offer the RS4 owner, but at least the cheeky bastard had a go

That'll mean there will be lots of used RS4s on the forecourt NOT

Having driven both back to back I'd say it is a close thing.
Just depends on whether you like the turbo rush, or want smooth v8 power (and a new car).
I wonder if this means they are having trouble shifting the S4s, or are having difficulty finding enough RS4s for those looking.
So JR, if your dad's the king can you have a word about the amount of tax on petrol !!

Did you tell him where to put the S4? Suppose at least your dealer speaks to you.....

Re: Swap RS4 for S4
John W, I did drive both and not just back to back either but alongside each other taking turns in each repeatedly.
I'm all in favour of smooth V8 power if there is enough , but standard car for standard car the S4 cant cut the mustard.
Be nice to have a new Audi. Just not that particular one.

I have to agree Tim. I read your post on the back to back drive too, which you posted around the same time I had my drives
Nice car, but not worth the extra it would cost over an RS4 for the same level of trim/spec IMO, unless you absolutely have to have a v8 or a new car.
I suppose if you borrowed one for the day to have a good drive in could they possibly just be doing a follow-up call ??
I know VW and Audi gave me lots of follow ups after my test drives. Porsche were the only ones that didn't...

Re: Swap RS4 for S4
I've had my RS4 for a week. I had a budget for a used RS or the new S4. The dealer really pushed the S4 at me, quoting a delivery of Feb/March so it doesn't sound like they're struggling to get rid. Anyway, I test drove them both.
The V8 was lovely and it's a brand new car, but back to back there was no comparison. The V8 sounded great, but had nothing like the pick up or rush of the RS. Plus he made the big mistake of parking them next to each other. DOH!
I also noticed a distinct drop in build quality, inside and out. The S4 felt like a cheaper car and lots of loose bits around the sat nav panel and door surrounds. Great gearbox and steering, much better than my previous S4 Avant, but nothing like the feeling I get in the RS, even after a week of ownership.

Re: Swap RS4 for S4
YEA RIGHT! IN MY CASE THE SALESMAN IN MEXICO HAVE NOTHING TO OFER ME (EXCEPT FOR THE RS6 THAT I TRY IT AND LOVE THE CAR BUT HATE THE TRANS.), BECAUSE THE HIGH ALTITUDE (7,500 FEET ABOVE SEA LEVEL) THE OLD S4 (265 H.P.) BETS THE NEW S4 AND THE M3, SO YOU CAN IMAGINE WHAT THE DO TO THESE CARS.
