Just wondered how a stock RS4 compares with an E39 M5?? anyone had any actual encounters??

It seems common knowledge that a modded RS can easily embarrass an M5...

I have been round a track with an M5. Cars were let off at 5 sec intervals. The M5 was 3 cars ahead of me. I managed to catch and overtake it after 4 laps.

Colud you tell at which track it was and how long was this track and I would like to know what time do you drive at Nordschleife with your RS4 ?.(Asking about this track coz of your avatar [img]images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img])


Coming back to subject...

...M5 and stock RS4 are very similar, RS4 is a litle beat faster and a beat more elastic.
M5 has more power and more torque but has also more weight.
Every each Kilogram of M5 is moved bei 4,6PS and of RS4 bei 4,4PS. Bei Accelerating 0-200KM Rs4 wins allmost 2s.

The secound question you didn't answer was What time you did with your RS4 on the Nordschleife?

And the last thing is I didnt say that M5 is faster that RS4!

How good's your German spelling mate?! [img]images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] The RS4 will get to 30 or so much faster than the M5, but I think after about 100mph the M5 will pull away. Only judging on having been in a virtually M5 spec car with simlar power etc. (it was a 540 that'd been beefed up), following an RS4. It's a close run thing though, but the RS4 corners a lot more smoothly and with more grip. That said the M5 is some car.

Dont be ashamed and tell me what times you're driving on the Nordschliefe...or maybe you've never been driving there?

What I was trying to tell you is that RS4 is only 3s.faster then M5 at the Nordschleife. And on the ~ 3km track it was just 0,3s.

So as you see between this both cars is not the performace important. The drivers quality counts.

May I offer some clarifications from a neutral swiss perspective:

" Das wird kein Schwein verstehen" is a standard colloquial expression in German(y) meaning

"Nobody will understand that".
Literally: "No-pig will understand that".
The pig part is NOT an insult in the standard expression.

Just a brief intervention in the hope to refocus the discussion on car/driver performance and not escalate...

Only having driven round the Ring a few times (On the same day!!), I wonder what markers are used to measure the lap time?

You need to use your own laptimer.
