Bent wheels vs suspension

Post by Spud » Wed Jul 30, 2003 10:34 pm

Hi guys,

I need to know if anyone has older info on the original stuff on RS4.org regarding the pre release issues Audi had with the wheels and suspension breaking. One or two 'issues' to sort out with my dealer. Any help would be appreciated.

Ta

Chris.

Might be able to help, but would involve a large amount of work.... How necessary would this need to be, as I assume it would be denied?

Phil, this sounds like restoring the "forgotten archives of RS4.org" to find a needle. If so, I can see what you mean by large amount of work

I'm personally also interested in the story of bent rims with Audi UK as I just found out that Audi France claims there's never been an issue with RS4 rims and no recall/free replacement is to be expected.

But the only thing I'm really looking for is a copy/scan of the letter of Audi UK posted on RS4.org (was it after the major meeting with the Quattro guys ?) where they offer a switch for hard wheels or a lifetime replacement for soft wheels.

Maybe one of the UK owners kept a copy and could post it ?

Many thanks,

Eric

I have this problem where I 'deformed' a steering rod and $3K later have a bill. I have had three bent wheels for the last 9 months which haven't been replaced under warranty and no body wants to know....so whatever information I can gather regarding the relationship between the potential of a bent wheel and the suspension prior to the RS4 release may help.

Maybe a future problem for us all as I have no idea how it happened

As you're probably aware, the bent wheel thing is very well known over here. It just might be worth contacting Audi UK Customer care on Fax +44 1922 639 224 and ask for an "RS4 Option Wheel" request form which you can then wave under your local Audi centre's nose. Not so sure about bent suspension though. We've all heard that it happened but as far as I'm aware it hasn't to anyone here - and some of thses guys REALLY give their cars some sh*t.

I've had 6 bent rims and have now gone over to the "harder" ones - all for free.

It is a lifetime warranty on the wheels UNLESS you take the "harder" option in which case it is the normal 2 years (I think). There are no milage or other limitations. Audi KNOW that they f**ked up and it was as a direct result of the efforts of some of the guys here that they were forced to make this concession to all RS4 owners....in the UK. I don't know if it also applies to Europe. Anyone out there know?

Audi France claims there is no such thing as defective rims and has never issued a recall or a specific extension on the rims.

If anyone could post a scan/photo copy of the "RS4 Option Wheel" request form, I'd be glad to show it to Audi FR (I doubt Audi UK would fax it to me as they'll most likely ask first for my license plate and vehicule number and find out it's not a UK car, or will inquire why I give a fax number in France).

Many thanks,

Eric

Many thanks Bushy. The doc above seems to be a letter from Kevin Rose (Audi UK MD ?) acknowleding the discussion and the intent to eventually resolve it.
I've printed it and mailed to my correspondant at Audi France already

But I'd feel even stronger (and so would the FR employee trying to nail the issue internally, good chap) if I could provide a copy of something that shows the actual solution offered by Audi UK, such as a "RS4 Option Wheel" request form.
Sorry everyone for the inconvenience.

A friend of mine looked at buying an RS4 when they first came out and went over to the factory to talk about it.
When he asked why all the RS4's outside (belonging to employees) were running 17inch wheels, he was told "These wheels don't bend!"

Chris, I've recently joined the RS4 owenrs club, and i'm from Auckland. In dealing with Mark, the Audi Sales Manager in Auckland for Continential Car Services, he was pretty much up front about the wheel issue and stated its covered by the cars warranty. Your car must still be under warranty, so I'm unclear why "you" are paying for it, unless they describe it as driver created damage. ?

I have downloaded most of the stuff about the wheel problem while I was fighting Audi Australia. I would be happy to send it to you Phil for posting. (Some of the letters were for restricted view only so I do not want to post them)
