Replacement Tyres

I need to replace my Michelin Pilot Sports. The best price that I have been quoted locally (Coventry) for a set of 4 94Y rated tyres is £1080 inclusive fitted. Is this a good price or can anyone recommend anywhere else to look.

Before the temporary demise of audi-sport.net someone posted details of a contact in Bristol who from memory was offering a better price than I have been able to get by phoning round. Unfortunately I did not copy the posting and after its resurrection there does not seem to be any way of accessing the old postings.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

PS Nice new site John!!

Hey Malcom

Good to see you here mate

I would say that is a fair price

The last time i bought Michellins I paid £1050 for the set.

I have currently got Goodyear F1's which seem fine but time will tell if they are as hard wearing as the Pilot Sports

Ojne plac people seem to recommend is micheldever, nearer to Winchester than Bristol

try this link to their site

http://www.micheldever.co.uk/

I personally use Elite, speakk to Dave and mention Bushy when you call

http://www.elitewheels.co.uk/

I hope this helps

Hi malcolm, thanks for your words of encouragement
I would try motorway tyres in Kidderminster, and tell them i sent you, i think you will be suprised, how good there pricing is.
Other tyres to consider Yokohama AVS & Goodyear Eagle F1 D3 much more realistically priced and very good too!
Cheers

The goodyear F1's were around £710 for the set

So a bit of a saving

I believe the Yokohamas are the same money - ish

Just wondering about the wear. I would expect 12000 miles from a set of tyres with my driving style but got about 19000 from the Pilots

We shall see

John,

Contacted Motorway Tyres in Kidderminster as you suggested. Spoke to someone called Mark. He gave me a price of £838.24 that is about £250 les than the best price I had been able to find by phoning round locally. Used this quote to persuade the local Motorway tyres to do it for the same price. Having them fitted tomorrow or Saturday depending on when they arrive.

excellent use of the site to save a good chunk of money.

Thanks for your help

I'm about to replace my tyres also. So far have had 2 sets of pilots which have been excelent. But I am thinking of switching to Gooyears. Anybody had experience of both ?

Would appreciate a comparison before I buy ?

Hi Chis got the F1s at the moment...... I think they are good tyres but not the best for our cars.... The wall of the F1 is very soft in comparison to Bridgestone and Yokohama..... The Michelins are indeed a great waring tyre compaired to the other brands, perhaps not as good in the wet as the other brands.
AVS or SO3s get my vote
cheers

Hi

I have had Michellins then swap to the Goodyear

After a few thousand miles my thoughts are that the goodyear are better in the wet but the pilot sports better in the dry

and on the RS4 the pilot sports may or may not be worth the price difference

I will be trying the Yokohamas on my next set, just to test something else

Cheers

Steve,

Yes thanks to John that is the price I got the Michelin Pilots for. I was very contenet with the first set and so decided not to change. They were fitted this afternoon and I took the opportunity to swap the best of the old ones for the 40 profile tyre that was on the spare winter wheel that I had bought so if anyone is interested in acquiring a virtually new 255/40 ZR 18 Continental Sport tyre they should e-mail me.
