Any previous B7 owners?

Post by KWheeler » Wed May 15, 2019 6:40 pm

Hi Guys,

I typically lurk on the B7 page as I currently own a mugello blue saloon which I've been thoroughly enjoying for 18 months now. I've always had a soft spot for both the B7 and B5 and I'm entertaining the idea of potentially getting into a B5 if the figures make sense.

I use MRC for looking after my B7 so will of course listen to their advice on running costs of a B5 but I'd love to hear thoughts on the ownership proposition and anyone here moved over from a B5/own both what their experience is in servicing, parts etc.

Thanks in advance.

Might also be worth posting this on https://audisrs.com/audi-s4-rs-4-b5-quattro-f8/

A few more B5 people on there.

Ive own both and have owned both before and a few more in between. :)
The fact Ive returned probably states my thoughts but having recently got back into and done up a B5 and a B& Cab. I think the rare ones are a sound investment not a brilliant one. Parts for the B5 and B7 are out there they just take a bit of finding. A decent Mechanic is more important as is a sound history and mileage. Cosmetics can be fixed ....Cars rarely earn you money but they can command decent residuals. Personally I buy them, enjoy them for a while, do them up and move on so if anyone wants one I have a couple knocking around! ;) ;)

My view if you're in it for the money then bail out. The sort of B5 that ticks all the boxes is already is very short supply, the others are for enjoying, but the various mods will see them hard to sell on, the big cash buyers at this point are looking for originality and super low miles.

If you are a car driver rather than collector, enjoy one. The B5 is a hot drive for a 20 year old car. the operative 20 year old says it all about the sort of parts issues you will face, worse every day but there are alternative and aftermarket parts around.

The big deal, a small bingle will write off the car. Check the forums and see the almost imperceptible damage and then the fact that it an economic write off due to cost of repair, lack of parts availability etc.

All the info you'll ever need to make the decision is out there on Forums, just need to read, and then read some more.
