Driving to the Italian Lakes

I'm off to the Italian lakes in a week's time. Driving from UK through France (maybe a German Autobahn, into Switzerland, staying in Interlaken then over the Alps and down to Stressa. I can't wait. The RS4 is the ultimate grand tourer.
Any RS4's I can wave at on the way?

I am not far from your route if you come through switzerland, I am in Baden between Basel and Zurich. If you venture into Zurich you will probably see quite a few along with other exoctica [img]images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

Baden? Ok, I will look at my map. May be difficult to detour as wife may ask why [img]images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

Not if you don't have winter wheels. you see, us Brits don't need them. When it snows (or rains) here everything grinds to a halt so you can't drive anyway. [img]images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

Don't miss the way from Sainkt Moritz ( good for shopping as wife ask [img]images/graemlins/sloppy.gif[/img]) to Como Lake, then take a ferry in Varenna to Bellagio ( Como Lake " pearl " ) and drive to Milan trough Ghisallo way : winding road and a few Carreras 4 s over there [img]images/graemlins/thumbs.gif[/img]

good idea about a Swiss meet. Unfortunately will probably be out of town when JJ_RS4 is passing through. But why don't you open up an according thread so drum up the CH-folks to a meet. I'm near ZH. I'm sure feelou would join in too

Thanks for all the info. I won't be able to detour via Baden, I'm sorry. I will be entering Switzeland at Bern and then to Interlaken. One day ride from Calais.
Thanks also for the advice about the road from Bellaggio to Milan. I will give it a try.

I can thoughroughly recommend Bellagio for an overnight stay and a bloody good meal, it has some fantastic views and excellent eateries!
I stay at Cernobbio every year for the GP @ Monza, it's just down Lake Como from Belaggio [img]images/graemlins/1syellow1.gif[/img]

Watch out going through France. A buddy of mine just came back from Magny Cours and was fined £500 for 105MPH and had his licence taken away (!) so someone else had to drive. There were loads of others nicked at the same time - all coming from the FIA GT race. I've been fined before but never heard of the licence thing. I'm over there soon so I think investing in a Valentine 1 could be a good idea.

Indeed, cops are getting very nervous these days with speed-traps.
This Eastern week-end had the lowest number of deaths in 40 years, and -40% vs 2002 (!), so it's only reinforcing their confidence in the tool. The Police bikers use laser guns from bridges, gas station exits, plus in-car ones in undercover ones (often parked on the emergency lane with warning lights).
The safest way to enjoy a fast run is at night, they can only "flash" you, no interception usually, so the fine can get stuck in the mail once they find it's a foreign car (although this could be changing).
The BEST -but not the most honorable [img]images/graemlins/033102ass_1_prv.gif[/img] - is to find another fast night-driver and let him open the road 200-300 m from you. If there's a flash ahead, he'll demine it for you [img]images/graemlins/sekret.gif[/img].

Hello Alan. Yes I am staying in Bellagio. I might take a drive down to Monza to have a look around.
The weather forecast is not good though [img]images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] but, hey, come rain, sun or snow the RS4 performs in all conditions.
NigelJ. I don't like the idea of the licence being taken away. I usually travel at those speeds in France. The fine used to be £50. This is not good. I guess I should take a photocopy with me [img]images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

No problem about detour - wouldn't be able to make it now, broke my foot and tore a ligament on Sunday, so no driving for me for a while.
