What a week - new brakes and a visit to sportec

As stated before I still have my car bought new in mar 2001 after an 8 month wait from ordering. recently I have toyed with the idea of a 355 or 360 just for a change even got to the stage of downloading the manuals and checking parts prices. Then I rented an XKR on my last visit to the UK and it was manic to drive, it rained all weekend and when you floored it the back end had no grip whatsoever but the supercharged power delivery was something else even if you couldn't drive it fast.

The disks on my RS4 needed renewng again so after deciding to keep it I decided to go with the B7 upgrade and quattro disks, having thought about going to germany to get hem fitted (ebay source) I found a guy in switzerland who advertised the kit with the phaeton cooling and new hoses PLUS the necessary paperwork so it was a quick visit to check him out and then the car was booked in for the work to be done. I decide to leave the back calipers as they were less than a year old but went for quattro sports disks. He also serviced the car and gave it a good polish and I was in love again :D

Of course while I was researching the brakes the subject of a stage 1 entered my head so I booked my car into sportec today. I always wondered if my running in technique made a difference, I always thought it did from when I rode 2 stroke bikes and now having run this in form new was curious if the engine would be better than others. Natually I was pleased with the figures 426 BHP BUT 617NM which seems high compared to others. The car is standard apart from the remap - although I have my eye on a 2nd hand milltek catback but its difficult to justify any more money on it at the moment.

So now my 12 year old car is new again

Saw the pics in the gallery Ian. Looks great. I have the Sportec exhaust and cats on my RS4 and I love the raw brushes aluminium pipes. Interested in your rear brake setup as my rear calipers have started sticking a little. Had mine from new too :)

Hi Phil,

I decided to stick with standard calipers as they were renewed 12 months ago. Part of the reason was I was concerned about the master cylinder size and didn't want to replace that. However I opted for the proper quattro gmbh sport discs which are cross drilled and pads.

very pleased with my sportec stage 1 as over 600nm seems high But it was a cool day which would help and I have just seen for sale a factory tuned car apparently it was an option which was quoted at 440 Bhp and 600NM

Sportec zorst is proably too much for me to get this year as I have too many other projects (laverda jota rebuild) although I have seen a second hand milltek catback with resonanted and non resonated pipes for sale so maybe I am tempted ;-)

To be honest though I don't track day it and apart from a few trips to germany it difficult to enjoy the power as it is.

Graze,

Thanks for the comments, there is not really any better all round car I don't like the look of the newer ones and I think the B5 will continue to age well like the RS2 although I like my G4 defender 110 as well :D
