THE KEY WAS ONLY £70
But what about the parts for the cambelt change and the service?

HI AGAIN,THE CAMBELT CHANGE ALL IN INCLUDING PARTS AND LABOUR WAS £150.AS I HAVE SAID BEFORE MY MAIN DEALER IS VERY FAIR WITH THEIR PRICING AS I HAVE BEEN A CUSTOMER THERE FOR SOME YEARS NOW.NOTHING IS TOO MUCH TROUBLE AND THEY ONLY TAKE PAYMENT ONCE EVERYTHING IS DONE AND YOU ARE HAPPY.I AM STILL DUE THEM FOR AN MOT AND SERVICE LAST WEEK AS THEY HAD TO ORDER SPARK PLUGS FROM EDINBURGH.THE CAR GOES IN THIS WEDNESDAY TO GET THEM DONE.I THINK THE STANDARD RATE IS £75 AN HOUR BUT I DO GET A VERY HEFTY DISCOUNT ON THAT.TO BE FAIR I THINK IT IS A CASE OF WHO YOU KNOW AND NOT WHAT YOU KNOW.TO BE HONEST APART FROM THE PETROL COSTS THIS CAR HAS BEEN THE CHEAPEST CAR TO RUN I HAVE HAD AND THAT INCLUDES AN E46 M3 AND A MK 4 VAUXHALL ASTRA SRI.

Cambelt change on an RS4 is approx. 8 hours labour. £150 including parts beats the best Listers could do for me by £750!!!! Even a good friend/specialist of mine couldn't really do it for less than £375  They must really like you and your car

IF YOU HAVE A FAX NUMBER I WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO SEND YOU A COPY OF MY INVOICE.THE CAR WAS IN AND OUT IN UNDER 8 HOURS AND HAD ALOT OF WORK DONE.I GET THE FEELING DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS CAR BEING A TOP END TOP SPEC CAR THAT FOR SOME REASON IT INFLATES THE PRICE OF THE WORK THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE.MY DEALER JUST SEES THE CAR AS A FANCY A4 AVANT.THUS THERE PRICING STRUCTURE IS VERY REASONABLE.

sorry phil t,there is a saying where i come from 'keep your mouth shut and no one will know there is anything wrong with you' you should keep that in mind mate.i was only pointing out to a certain member that the rs4 avant is quite cheap to run and i dont need you sticking your oar in.i got the feeling this member thought i was making the service and cam belt change price up and offered to fax him a copy of my invoice thats all.

tmontieth, did you used to have the username RickyRS4? The tone in your reply to Philt looks/sounds familiar, and RickyRS4 also enjoyed uppercaps. I think that you misunderstood the polite request that was put to you - but that's just me sticking my oar in.

Having personally done my own Timing belt and bought my parts via GPC (cheaper than audi and Vagparts) I can officially say you have robbed them blind getting a timing belt done for £150.... see below for parts:
All prices Ex vat I tried a Neat table but formatting just gets ignored when posted!

Format: Part_description/Part_No/Audi_price/VAGpart_Price\GPC Price
Cambelt /B 078 109 119M to J / 35 / 38.35/ 30
Roller / b 078 109 244 H / 31.67 / 21.99 / 21
Tensioning roller /b 078 109 243 R / 34.6/ 30 /25

And really they should have done the dampner and water pump at the same time:
Belt tensioning Damper / 078 109 479 E / 95.52 /56.61/ 61
Waterpump / b 078 121 004 R / 73.32/ 67.28 / 55
Thermostat / b078 121 113 F / 10.39 / 9.94/ 7.5
Seal / 901 368 02 / 2.54 / 0.81/ 2

So even doing it cheaply from the cheapest supplier parts are 76 plus vat. Water pump etc brings it to 201.50 plus Vodka and Tonic. From Audi prices are 101.27 and 283.04 plus vat(about 332 quid!). So these are the reasons it makes: A: no sense for anyone to do that job for 150 quid and thus B: difficult to believe regardless of who you are....(ie no offense) Just giving the reasons for said reaction.......

If I were you I'd go and check on the condition of your cambelt ;)
Mark.

OMG, this thread's like a forest fire, just when you think it's been extinguished it starts up again. I think it's going no-where.

As far as I can see, tmontheith has got a cracking deal from his local dealer. Whether he's got some compromising photos of his local dealer doing something he shouldn't, or he just owes him a favour, I don't know. We all know that we can't get that job done for that price from any of our local dealers. Personally, mine is going to MRC at 8.00 tomorrow morning and is having the belts changed as well as a leaking rear cam tensioner oil seal replaced and the whole show's costing me in the region of £1,200 inc. Having spoken to the mechanic at my local Audi Dealer on the phone, I'd rather Doug did the work for £1,200 than the dealer at half that price. You pays your money......
Mike

I did wonder if it was possible to even source the parts for under £150. The manual states the parts needed to meet the requirements of a 40k service. In general, most dealers will charge about £100 an hour labour. So £150 all in isn't what I would class as usual for a 40k service.
