Thanks for the pointers chaps (and that mention of the 'armrest' thing which I find a very intriguing mod mentioned here compared to ECU re-maps & 380mm rotors etc ;).

Hmmm

Car a)

On the hot list, no Audi service history, no previous owner, no bills, just 20k miles for a 3 year old, all for 40k. To maintain 'your' warranty you would surely need to stay withing the Audi main stealership. Risky resale.

Car b)

A genuine 2001 Y reading 30k with FASH, decent spec, bought either from an enthusiast on RS246, Tyresmoke, Pistonheads etc for 30k. HPI clear. Out of warranty, hence use AmD for service.

Not a hard decision.

Standard spec pretty good: all the usual stuff plus heated leather recaros with electric adjust, climate, Bose stereo with CD, DIS, cruise, Xenons, carbon fibre trim.

Main options were: satnav either a version with no map screen (directions just appear in the DIS) or higher spec satnav + with biggish map screen,
sunroof, side curtain airbags, CD changer, armrest (no thanks), auto dip mirror (not if you paid me).

Cheers, Richard
Not like armrests? After having one now, I try and drive any car without one then my arm starts aching :D
Auto dip is pretty handy as well, at least it doesn't dip the wing mirrors.
Another option not to forget is the seat colour/type. Hi-tech cloth/leather, black leather, or silver leather. I've heard that there were different types of black leather as well.
Don't forget the piano trim option also.

Cheers

Ben

I agree on the armrest. I hated the idea at first, but now I love it and it feels odd when it's not there!!!

Are you the person selling car B Ian?

I still can't believe you are all still slating it, why not just give it a chance before you give it a black mark.

I would go to the dealership that had the 40,000 car do a bit of negotiating and drive away in a bog standard RS4 that had never been tinkered with 10k less miles and manufacturers warranty. But then I have had the priveledge of driving it and know that it is sound.
Come and buy from me!!!

But Chris,
still does not answer the concerns re resale or trade in value to the trade.

At the end of the day.................... it is very similar to South hereford looking 50K for an unregistered Audi Quattro, it was made in 1990, but never registered, was finally was sold last year. The car was registered 2003 although it was made in 1990, only difference was it had 0 miles on the clock........................I'm afraid it is 'pay your money, make your choice!' I would personally prefer to stick to one with no dubious past, no matter what the dealer tells me and would then only accept the tale in writing............................

Ok ok - I'll come clean! My Range Rover has an armrest and it's fab! Very handy when I'm 4 wheel drifting under full power at 110 :) (yeah right!!!)

Chris, mate! I'd let this one go - it started rusting years before 2004 ;)

Does get in the way sometimes when trying to select reverse quickly with a short shift :boots: otherwise it is a tip top bit of kit

No, not selling car b, merely pointing out clean car b is now circa £30k, and for an extra £10k you get a date of registration three years out of kilter, a blank service book and, as Prawn highlights, a limited resale market. HPi gave it a black mark...

It does have an armrest Ian

Audi docklands have an RS4 on a 51 plate FULL SERVICE HISTORY,its done 29k and the are looking for £33k for the car.

The Edinburgh car has now been sold to a lad on here!

Bit of a shock that an approved Audi stealership is trying to flog an RS4 that cant pass an HPI check

If i was desperate for an RS4 and it was the only one available,i still wouldnt buy it!

Totaly taking the f@cking piss!
