Here's an odd thing - a 2004 RS4 (B5)
Chris,
First off well done for registering and giving the history, fair play to you mate.
At the end of the day this is a 2001 car (irrespective of the fact it was registered in 2004)
with 20K miles on it.
This alone IMO would make a realistic price 29~32K dependant on the condition.
That is not withstanding the 'history' of the car.
Accepted it has been checked and may well be on the button but as the only 2004 registerd
RS4 it will stick out like a sore thumb when the new owner came to resell it, which will no doubt
raise some akward questions.
Also in all honesty if in 2 years the new owner came back to you to trade it can you honestly tell me that you (or another of your collegues) would not mark the price down due to the history ?

Simply the car is not an authentic 04 car .
Forget its regestration issues.
20k rs4 good value at 33-34k from a stealer.
3 years warenty, yes for an older car it is 2.5k.
This warranty will not cost you anything, or if it does pass it on at cost or even give it away frree of charge to cover the history of the car.
33k is a reasonable price concidering its got 3 years warranty.
low speck could be argued.
No one on here is trying to piss any one off.
There is a lot to take on when buying this type of car.
Personally I agree with the 30ish remarks as I would never wish to pay profit to dealers to clear second hand cars for a profit with problems.
It should not even be expected for God's sake.
Especially one with such unique history.
It is not a selling point. It cannot be corrected.
Be wise take a hit get it mooved to some one who will feel they got a bargain. That is the real art when selling cars especially as a Respected Dealer.
You will be turning over milions it will not ruin you , wuite the opposite..
Keep us informed. This will redem your position undoubtably.

Not bashing your dealership, but I think you might have a rose-tinted view of the network as a whole.ChrisAudiSalesExec wrote:Look, at the end of the day we are an Audi main dealer. The standards to which we operate are probably the highest in the industry and Audi UK make damn sure that we don't let those standards slide.
Do you chaps honestly think that we would be able to sell a dodgy car?
When I bought my car, by far the dodgiest one I saw was at a main dealer.
Me: "seems stronger than standard, remapped?"
Dealer: "no sir"
Actual (when I spoke to previous owner): 461 bhp
Me: "those aren't standard brakes are they?"
Dealer: "yes they are sir"
Actual: GmBH brakes
Me: "that's not a standard exhaust is it?"
Dealer: "yes it is sir"
Actual: Milltek
...and my personal favourite...
Dealer: "the clutch is very worn so biting point is tricky. Will be replaced before sale"
Actual: MTM paddle clutch. Previous owner had destroyed two standard clutches and opted for something a bit beefier.
Cheers, Richard.

Fair play to you Chris.
Its good to see someone from a steelerships on board. I hope more join up they can learn a lot about the customer. I only hope someone from the design team on the new RS4 logs on.
For my bit I agree with the above £31K tops. Based on Autotrader prices you can pick up the following:
2.8K miles RS full spec for £42.5
8.5K miles for £40K
25K miles for £35K.
There are a number with 50K miles for around £32K.
Audi Network (least No. of RS4’s I’ve ever seen!!)
18K miles for £38K
32K miles for £32K
32K miles for £62K
20K miles for £40K – I assume your one
Exchange and Mart
25K miles £35K
62K miles £32K
I paid £34.5 for my 28K no sunroof but TV etc etc last November from an Audi dealership.
So from the above list yours is the most expensive for the mileage even ignoring the history! I look at it like this. If you want one you look what is on the market and what the market price is. The theoretical book price is meaningless if you can't get one for that money. So looking at the above prices I have the choice of two with considerably less miles, a third with 18K miles and £2K less, and two others for 5K cheaper but with a negligible 5K more miles. (possibly the same car)
This car has got to present itself as a better buy over what is on offer. It is the most expensive of all the models available! The 3yr warranty is not enough. As Brooner says, you can buy 2-3 years warranty for less than 2K.
The price should reflect the fact that this car has a chequered history i.e. it was stolen car and has done 20K of unknown miles not 20 miles. (You didn’t answer how this car has a full Audi service history.) The car may well be perfect but the fact that it is a stolen recovered RS4 has a major psychological effect on a prospective buyer and the buyer after that etc etc.
I agree with your comment about you never know how a car has been driven. You can only get an indication of how good a car is by test driving and comparing the condition against as many similar models. When you’re happy with that, life is less stressful if you can have confidence that the warranty will cover the rest.
Hell I considered mine a good one but it still needed new turbos at 34K miles. The clutch was replaced at 25K (previous owner). Folk have had gearboxes, carpets replaced etc etc. However, inconvenience aside, provided you have a comprehensive no quibble warranty the fact that the turbos have not been warmed up / cooled down is nothing to worry about. All mechanical items and the like can be replaced with no real ill effect to the car provided it’s done CORRECTLY! (As you may have noticed the average Audi service department across the country to date, have a very poor rap with us – no matter what you tell us about Audi quality!)
In general, the major concern is if a car has had its chassis jigged or had major body panels replaced. (I’m not suggesting this one has) New owners take note - No matter how well it is repaired. Jig work means it has seen a decent impact with the potential that it will not handle as well as it should, or even scrub expensive tyres.
Also, replacing panels compromises the rust protection of a car. 10 years down the line you can spot the cars with the replaced wings, door panels they simply don’t last as long as an undisturbed original panel.
In short put the boot on the other foot. Like Prawn says, I’m a customer coming to you with my stolen recovered RS4 for a trade in. What will you give me for it? I sure you wouldn’t give me £35K far less £39K if you would even touch it unless you could make some serious money on the trade up car!! Drop the price to £31K provide a no quibble warranty eg. cover everything including the clutch. (I was very disappointed to hear the previous owner of my car didn’t get his clutch covered within the three year warranty when it went at 25K he had to shell out £1200 and he had owned from new, 4 top model Audis. Now that’s poor customer service on a £52K car. No surprises he’s walked from the Audi brand. If you do the above that’s how to win custom. Smaller margin, happy customers repeat service. A dealership that gets a good name is worth a fortune because they are the exception I’m sad to say.
O I do ramble some , don’t get me started….

Interesting discussion - I had seen that ad today and was thoroughly confused! My 'just started' research process with a view to imminent purchase indicated that they have 4 wheels and they stopped making them in 2001!
Now talk of £1200 for a clutch is thoroughly frightening!
!! How on EARTH can a dealership charge that much? I know a 300BHP Subaru (that needs it engine dropping to change a clutch) can be sorted for about £450 at an indie with an organic clutch as a replacement (very green!!!). Are these the type of mark ups a main dealer charges? Its just a clutch for God's sake!!!

[And jeez do I have a few more questions for you lot

Edit - big up Chris for posting here; many may not agree (i'm a buyer and not even going to see the car which is local to me
), but it is good to see your interest, openess and commitment to the marque.

Frank, can I quickly pick your brain as to what you mean 'low spec'? I havent worked out what is standard and what is not on these cars yet.
I particularly ask as I guess that on my similarly 'top of the range' car you get 'everything' from sunroof to air con to leather seats included as its 'top of the b range'!.
Thanks and do forgive me for being a bit off topic in my research quest - short replies only then

AMD III RS4
Standard spec pretty good: all the usual stuff plus heated leather recaros with electric adjust, climate, Bose stereo with CD, DIS, cruise, Xenons, carbon fibre trim.Diesel wrote: can I quickly pick your brain as to what you mean 'low spec'?
Main options were: satnav either a version with no map screen (directions just appear in the DIS) or higher spec satnav + with biggish map screen,
sunroof, side curtain airbags, CD changer, armrest (no thanks), auto dip mirror (not if you paid me).
Cheers, Richard
