Forum member Neckarsulm who has recently purchased his second B5 RS4 went to see this very car as described in the other thread as you have seen. He knows ALOT about these cars and I think his description sums this car up well. At 13.5k it seems like a good deal as it was 15k when he went to see it a month or two back. The paintwork seems to be the only real negative aspect and if you can look past that then it could be a good buy.
The EGT fault could have been from when the MAF was replaced and the fault was not cleared down so it could well be that it's fault code less tomorrow. As said the best thing to do is get this car to MRC or unit 20 and let the Pro's have a look at it. I will bell you tomorrow and let you know if I can make it or not but my advice is not jump into this. Neckarsulm went to see a good few cars before making the purchase and as he said the mileage should not be the deciding factor but condition for these motors.

Thanks guys, you've all been great in your advice and I've never spent so much time on my pc and reading this forum and others to boot. Yes I want to look past the body work as i would be prepared to get this sorted out propely. I'd like to get car back to its former glory and if the mechanics check out ok then I could have a good car for some time to come. As I've said before I own a t sport quattro avant b5 and I've owned it for over 5 years and I have always that there would be no other car on the road that would suit me better. I need 4 wheel drive and I just love the avant all in all this is my perfect car so it would be a lovely project and toy.
So thankyou all for your support and i'll keep you posted.
Contigo... Thnaks for getting back to me, yes please give me a ring. like you say Neckarsulm only really commented on the body work which is a posative i'm sure.
So it time for bed and here's to a sleepless nite.lol
I'll catch up with you tomorrow.

Well after getting back from this not too long ago I'm quite impressed with it and the bodywork is nowhere near as bad as I expected after neckarsulms report. There's a little dulling on the rear bumper and a bit of flaking on the roof but other than that it's inline with what I'd expect from a 9 yr old motor and nothing that a mate in the bodyshop couldn't sort for a few pints.
It's no arm rest which I'm sure if Paul buys then he can sort that one out! Other than that it's a nice example and for the money a steal imo.
Pending one little niggle which caught us by surprise it's pretty much a done deal I reckon.

Hiya Contigo,
Thanks again for taking the time to come all that way with your inspection LEAD to help me check her out.lol it was great meeting you and your family. I must admit the car was a pleasent suprise, not as bad I was expecting. The bodywork needs a little tlc and the reason for the worn paint seems tobe due to the tailgate being removed and not quite lined up right when refitted as you could tell with the bolt locations and original paint marks but I'm having that double checked by an audi specialist body shop tomorrow. I'll have her looking like new in no time and that armrest has got tobe done asap.lol So if there's anyone out there with one knocking around please let me know. As for the little hick up that arose at the last minute, which eagle eyed Contigo spotted, that is being sorted tomorrow and then it all seems good to go. Watch this space!!
Thankyou everyone for you help and advice!!

Cheers bud, can't fecking believe I got all the way to Ascot and forgot my laptop but brought my Vag cable ROTFL!!!!
Anyway, after calling myself the biggest "<beep>" in town I got over it. If you pick it up come friday, pop over and we can hook it up anyway and set everything up as to your taste and also make sure that we check codes and maybe run a FATS test. Don't worry I'll explain later

Contigo, don't forget assessing cars pays my mortgage so there are things I'll notice that with all due respect you wont but I am sure you are better than me at your jobWell after getting back from this not too long ago I'm quite impressed with it and the bodywork is nowhere near as bad as I expected after neckarsulms report.

This car is impressive to the untrained eye as it's shiny and free of any obvious dents and scratches if that's good enough for you then fine, sometimes I wish I was less fussy as life would be less complicated

Considering I paid £450 to get two bumpers painted properly I'd see this as £2k to put right to a standard befitting of an RS4 as it would need 2 sides doing, both bumpers and the tailgate fixed - you have to ask yourself why Fontain or Nick Johnson (again people who make a living assessing cars) didn't buy this car to sell on at £13k - the seller told me Nick offered £13k weeks ago unseen.
However if you aren't looking to make a profit on it then it's a good buy

Absolutely unless you know much about Broadcast technology then yes I doubt you are better than me at my job
, although I have actually worked in a bodyshop in my younger years then I think I am qualified to state my opinion and hope it is valid. I noticed all the defects that you mentioned and also the bubbling of lacquer on the black window panels which is a classic (mine has it too). I love it how yoo condescend with the "untrained eye" comments and I actually picked something up which you presumably missed when you saw it?
It was a tidy motor though and for the money (13.5k advertised) it's even more of a steal considering the mileage and condition.
As for the VAGCOM, as you may see above, I got all the way there and suddenly remembered that I had forgot my laptop!!!!! I had the cable but nothing else!!! So, I couldn't confirm.... However my suspicion is that the code wasn't cleared down from the time when the MAF was replaced but I may be wrong.
The car is going to get something looked at today and will therefore have all codes checked and a pressure test too to check for any vacuum hose problems etc.....
