OK. Thanks for your answers.

I will have to give it a go - the noise is really annoying.

just a slightly off topic question...these clips you mention for the grills...my noggy's grill is looking a bit sorry at the moment and i was wondering if there's a part number or a recommendation as where toget these from??
Oh and Doug, I'm a reasonably new member to this site and an even newer proud owner of a noggy rs b5 which i've owned for about 6 weeks now and when I went to look at it down near slough I met up with Contigo, who kindly looked over the car for me. He said that I should run the car for a few months and get used to it, then book a day with you for a health check and re map...so I recon august time. As I live in Manchester can you tell me how long this would take you and how much notice you'll need?
Cheers,
Paul

Just had a tensioner changed on mine @ 112K after identical symptoms running super smooth now and seems much more responsive than before. Also had full cambelt service done with cam cover gaskets and cam seals so now on 6th belt and pulling like a train :D

8D9 853 645 A - 15 are required but you may need less and best place is your local Audi main dealer, they aren't expensive. You do need bumper off for this.
