Reading this with great interest - my neighbour had his car nicked night before last - (brand new black Audi A3) - major shock as we're in a very low crime area, tucked away in a quiet cul-de-sac - copper did stop in to my place after seeing the neighbour and was asking the missus about mine sat in the drive and warned that his[neighbours car] and most of them are being nicked to order at the moment and audi's are on the list it would appear.

So....I've been meaning to have a driveway gate put in for a while now....I feel the time is right!

I'm very interested in the Autowatch unit - I know it 'says' that they are technically illegal in the uk to operate as per the original manuf. intentions BUT....who the f..k cares about that??? I'm almost certain they'll fit it as per the original instructions - going to call them first thing monday morning to see about fitting to both cars!

quattrokid1 - I hear what you're saying but - I doubt that - these guys operate (it seems) between 3 and 4am and rely on a reasonable amount of stealth and speed - if the car suddenly slows to a stop on the street at 4am with the horn and lighths blaring - my guess is that they'll simply leg it

if its a professional steal to order gang then as you say its likely they would leg it if it started wailing, lights flashing etc.... I was refering to the paracites of society who's thrill it is to joyride then dispose of the vehicle in a fire chanting around it in a drug fuelled ritual.

I wouldnt even talk to the police about anyones car sat in the drive either..... who says they're not corrupted.... get info from you then pass it on.Who would suspect a police officer???? :?:

Reading this with interest also... just a thought.... a few comments with regards to it (Autowatch unit and a few other devices). Not be "technically legal"; stealing the vehicles in the first place is NOT "technically legal" either. My thought is do what you think is reasonable to protect your pride and joy. There are lots of devices both legal and not legal out there so if its not legal (though the flame thrower version brings a smile to my face as well the dye being sprayed into their faces, not legal but certainately effictive and make the barstewards think twice about it next time), but if it does the job... who cares; fire with fire and all that.

At the end of the day we've worked hard for what we got so why shouldn't we protect it??!!

I think the above comment will upset a few members who are boys in blue!

Very unfair as I have friends who are in the police and one of them was knocked down by a joyrider trying to protect someone else car. Thankfully he wasnt badly injured but when asked why he did it he stated he just wanted to catch the thieving scum and return the car to its owner as part of his job

In my opinion I think most police would rather catch the scum than let them go and then pass information on.

Damn boy. You've been lucky. Well, all I can say is. I've experienced about the same with my former Golf 4 R32 with stock alarm.
Forget about those people saying it's impossible to steal such cars without a key, it is. They were driving away with alarm beeping loudly. Informed police immediately, never seen the car again.
There are kits available on the internet which make stealing even the best protected stock VAG cars easily.
