Thanks Scott - I will (wouldn't want you robbing it now would I?Very good Julian, keep your handbag at bay.

You most certainly will NOT be poking my holey box at any time in the future! Dirty beggar ...I wasn't having a poke at your holey box. It's something I may well be doing in the future.
Bloody hell Woody - that's massive (even too big for my 21" monitor!) - but explains the need for an extra hole nicely ... especially for those of us S4 owners who are K04'd etc
Anyone got a photo of an RS4 airbox "ex machina" so we can see where the hole/flap malarkey actually is?

RE: re
All I am saying is I've never seen a car that has a factory air intake that doesn't attempt to take in external air usually from either a wing intake or around the headlamp area. I have seen loads of cars with drilled airboxes or cone filters that just take in the hot air from the engine bay, they might sound nice if you like that kind of thing but without partitioning them from the engine heat you wont get any performance gains, probably the opposite especially with such a cramped and hot engine bay as on 2.7T.Extra hot air eh? Hmmmm ... correct me if i'm wrong but hasn't the RS4 air box got an opening (albeit one that has a vacuum actuated flap) in exactly the same place as the hole that you cut for the darintake mod on an S4 box ...? Have you blocked yours off neckarsulm?
I'm not sure about this extra air intake (even with Woody's pic) but I am pretty sure it doesn't take it from the engine bay area, anybody know for sure?

RE: re
I think on an RS4 it's at the front of the bottom half of the airbox - and thus just behind and below the headlight - which is exactly the same place as you cut the hole for the darintake mod on an S4 box, albeit that the darintake hole is somewhat larger (see Nige's photo)... but I reiterate: I could be entirely wrong. Need a pic to see for sure either way....I'm not sure about this extra air intake (even with Woody's pic) but I am pretty sure it doesn't take it from the engine bay area, anybody know for sure?

RE: re
S4TAN, just remembered I was referring to the previous posters reference to "riddling airbox with holes" when I questioned the benefits of this rather than the darintake mod which looks OK but being devils advocate, why did quattro GmbH go to all that trouble with a switchable valve when they could have just left it open all the time as with the darintake mod?

RE: re
I take your point totally:- with an RS4 the additional inlet for the airbox system is integral and adaptive to the load, and doing the darintake mod to an S4 is just a far less sophisticated and "always on" version of the same thing. I guess it's a trade-off for S4 owners; probably not a brilliant mod in slow/gridlock traffic .... but when making decent and fast progress the benefits make up for it.
