RE: Re: RE: towbar electrics
So guys I promised some pictures of the towbar fitment. I apologise for it not being as exciting as FATS times/ RS6 turbos etc! I guess some folks may find it of interest, hence the post.
Last weekend I fitted the Westfalia towbar kit. Took Saturday afternoon to fit the towbar and then Sunday afternoon to sort the electrics. I bought a bypass relay for the 12N socket (I just fitted the single electrics as I aint quite into caravans yet! Give it a few years
). The electrics took a while as there is a fair bit of trim to remove. I had to wire a fused 12V feed from the fuse box to supply the bypass relay.
Took some photos today (see below). As you can see the detachable towbar is pretty invisible once removed. There is a couple of small cutouts required on the underside of the rear bumper but these are only noticeable if you are lying on the deck and looking up from underneath. The quality of the Westfalia towbar is great and the instructions are pretty good too. Thanks to those who already posted the details on this. Oh and yeah the detachable part does look a bit too phalic for my liking

RE: Re: RE: towbar electrics
yes simon the detatchable bit does look like a bit of a cock. you didnt need to bother with the relay business because the electrics just scotch into the wiring loom and the other thing i did was leave the socket in the spare wheel well so it didnt get corroded with salt and save you having to cut the bumper some more. anyway nice work dude. you got the best colour all you need now is get a decent zorst...

RE: Re: RE: towbar electrics
jimbo - just didn't want to take the chance on twice the current in loom. Probably fine but the relay is the correct way to do it. If you have the socket in the spare wheel well, don't you have to have the boot open to get the cable from the trailer (or whatever you are towing) into the interior of the car?
I doubt that the socket will get too corroded as it's sandwiched between the bumper and spare wheel well exterior and actually quite well protected.
The exhaust might not look the best (i.e. standard!) but it performs as good as a full milltek as has a deleted centre box and gutted precats.
