EGT and Lambda questions
Cheers Mate
I've heard people say "Disconnect the Maf" and then try running the car etc... Is a MAF really needed if you can run without one, I'm sure I'vee seen a thread where someone ripped their out, MAF's are a PITA and cause so many running problems it's untrue!

Pretty sure 95RON could not cause this unless you got a bad batch (though the wife probably still deserves punishment).
Like TopBear says, use VAG-COM to check the fuel trims (often a bad lambda won't throw a code, but you'll spot it because the trims will be way off). Then clear DTCs, and check for codes after (i) a couple of miles and (ii) say, 100 miles when the ECU has adjusted the fuel trims. If the main culprit is the lambda, then (depending on how shot it is) you may notice it drive better after clearing the codes.
And yes, you need a MAF ... if you disconnect it, it switches to a default map (OK for a couple of miles, but will confound other problems and potentially cause engine damage if you push it). MAF is relatively inexpensive and you will notice an improvement whether or not it was the culprit.

Been in today for diagnosis and it needs new MAF and both O2 sensors, the EGT codes ain't come back up since wknd but we can change them if needed! WD will cover the cost of these three items too

Great minds my friend, great minds!!

Probably a good idea to give yours a fresh slurp of the black stuff now she's back on form again. Yes I've had a bit of a search but nothing coming up. I've seen the post on classifidieds from the oilman but no luck there. Is this oils the best for types of car ie modded and bog standard??

Fully snthetic and 5W40 is the best. Quantum Synta Gold was the approved VAG oil and is recommended by all.
I'm off to try and source the Synta Platinum. Will let you know how I get on.
