Summary so far

Post by derdle » Thu Oct 26, 2006 12:15 pm

Well .. thanks to everyone for the replies, raised a few chuckles at this end anyway!

I think I'll pass on the S4 swap, had one (in Ming Blue?) before I got the RS4. Thanks for the kind offer anyway.

Put standard RS4 brakes back on it and then flog it? Too much hassle and then I've still got to buy the stock brakes and then do the swap. Might as well leave the RS6+ ones on.

RS6 is probably a little too big for the garage at home, the RS4 is a "snug" fit, besides I think the RS4 is a better all-round car. I know I'm going to be caned by the RS6 boys. But the suggestion is then to mod the RS6 too.

Thought about an M3 before I changed from the S4 to the RS4. Still don't like em. It's a badge thing with me.

I haven't yet tested the B7 RS4 but judging from some of the postings they are not as good as the B5 RS4 anyway.

Quattrosteph - you're old fashoined (well you did ask for it!!) but then so am I. I must admit the RS4 will take a lot of beating.

The chap I bought my RS4 from, sold it in anticipation of the new RS4, so I guess he is disappointed like so many others are. There seems to be a lot of B7's up for sale, whether this is because they are disappointing or whether it is out of fear of crime I'm not sure...they do seem to be a bit of a target.

"RS4 is a tough act to follow" - precisely why I made the posting in the first place. Many purists will no doubt mention the "ultimate driving machine" cos of it's rear wheel drive etc etc.

I don't have kids to worry about but the Avant style appeals to me for it's stealthy look and it's load lugging abilities - one of the reasons I bought it in the first place was because I used to scuba dive a lot and it can comfortably carry kit for two/three. Now don't dive but it comes in handy for holidays with the other half.

Cayenne Turbo S ... there is so much anti "Chelsea Tractor" feeling around I think it'll be silly to consider one of these. I don't think it'll fit in my garage either.

"Serious 600bhp beast" ...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm (images of Homer Simpson drooling spring to mind). Doh!

Martynh...love to take you up on that one but as I haven't any kids the deal falls flat. Sorry mate.

So the upshot really seems to be...either keep the current car and mod it a bit more or chop it in for a newer/lower mileage model.

This is so difficult.

Oddly nobody ahs come back and suggested Porsche 996/7 or GT's etc... is there a reason for this?

Many thanks everyone for taking the time to help resolve this one.

And now I'd better get back to work.

Dilemma

Post by MEPS » Fri Oct 27, 2006 3:25 am

I am going to be looking at this next summer I acquired an X5 for the wife and kids so want to get something smaller everyone here seems to have tried a 911 so I am thinking of going that way or would not mind looking for a Noble have not driven either of them so I suppose that will make my decision. I am seeing a lot of the B7 version now but I still like the look of the B5 better and they are not seen as frequently. Reallly fancy the 911 now though.
