Following on from Golich's point, you can actually register your car through the Audi website and it will give you some basic service and other details about your car e.g. "Full Service" and changes of ownership and number plates. Doesn't go into any greater detail though.

What makes you think the chain needs changing? Its been 20 years since I replaced a chain and that was only because it was worn. I never owned a car with a chain and thus don't know what the typical serice interval but I'd be surprised if it was less than a 100K miles. :?

You don't need to get friendly with anyone simply call any dealer's service dept armed with your chassis No. speak nicely to them and ask if they can confirm if a certain component has been replaced etc.

Audi themselves told me this was a 60k miles or 3 year replacement item.

When I was viewing the car it had 30k so they said it didn't need doing, but then realised it was 3 years old and told me they had changed it.

Audi CS should be able to tell you any (Audi) service history details from Dialogue, as should any service dept. I recently spoke to two dealerships that didn't know me or my money, and asked them to print off all their service info for my car, which they happily did. They even paid for the stamp...
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6

A service interval of 60K for a cam chain running in good quality clean oil is very surprising. But like I said I don't know very much about cam chains. I'd double check with a different dealership's service folk to make sure the dealership you bought the car from haven't confussed with a cam belt. Its not the first time the sales folk have talked complete bollocks.

Have you asked any of the guys on the RS6 forum if this is correct?

Yup - just popped into the RS6 forum on RS246. I see the V8 does use a belt and not a chain.

Like I said you can confirm that your belt was changed by calling any Audi dealer's service Dept.
