I can do the PHP/MySQL stuff if necessary. Just give me a shout.

Don I assume you're using the Ultradev product. Tried these but always gone back to the good old 'Textpad' method in the end.

yes, I'm using the ultradev product.. now called MX2000, it's a very quick (and some may say dirty) way of coding up data-driven pages for those of us who are nonprogramers.

Great as long as you don't want to hack into it too much.

Sounds like it would be great if you could code up something for RS246 since php is the go on here.

I'd like to try and stay away from JSP, as I think it is a little overkill for this application. When you say Macromedia, do you mean Dreamweaver? I heard they had added some PHP programming to it, but that it wasn't too hot.... Have a couple of books on my desk that I bought specifically to learn PHP/Apache/MySQL, maybe it is time to set myself a little challenge.

The base components for the site are Apache/PHP/MySQL all on Linux of course.

Phil, I reakon you should have a go at the PHP stuff or get Sitas to help you. If you are a 'little' bit the programmer then PHP is one of the easiest web languages to learn.

I would just hack into one of the forum pages (if permitted) and add more form fields and change the MYSQL table that it inserts into. Creating the new table in MYSQL is the easy part, but I can help you with that side of things if need.

Yes, dreamweaver is part of the web product I use. Yes, not sure about the reliability of its php capabilities given PHP is a recent addition, but I'd be surprised if it didn't work for page form/data inserts.

Don, your idea is a good one, and I'm not knocking it with my comment above, but for that to work people have to respond with information. It also takes a little bit of time to get in place.
I'm quite willing to enter all the details I gather into a new database (or provide a CSV so someone else can do it).

The first couple of posts of this thread set out what info I need. all it takes is for someone to cut & paste that into the body of a PM and answer alongside each item. Not exactly hard.
Although judging by the responses so far maybe it is...

So come on people. If you don't have your chassis# to hand that's fine, but at least initially respond with the colour, options, mods, and reg info. Then when you have your log book to hand send me the chassis# & previous owners.

A copy of the sticker in the service book is a good idea. Hadn't thought of that...
Anyone with the technology can send me that too then

Btw, I am also logging info about non uk cars simply as I have some responses from non uk owners.

If I don't start receiving info soon I shall start requesting details directly from individuals who I know have RS4s.

I also think we should add where possible a milage record which if possible should be updated, in a bit of vain attempt to prevent milage clocking.

Also, the following:
Age
No of owners
Major or expensive repairs including date and milage. Not sure if its worth stating things like brakes mind you they are damn expensive! I put my turbo, clutch and SATNAV+ unit i.e. £900 just for the unit!!

Getting the basic register in place is my main aim, and for that people need to provide details as already asked.
If people send me the mileage I am logging it, but at present only the current mileage when the details are sent. If people want to send me more info then that's fine, I will log it too.

Hutch, not received your info yet. Can you pm it again please.

I'm astounded at how many of the regulars have not given details.

Looks like I shall have to start PMing people directly after all...
