Both cars are excellent (I still miss mine!!! lol) and i'm not just saying it as now I have the 996 Turbo! If both cars were doing 120 and you floored it the 996 would pull away (I do agree not by huge margins) your talkin about X50 Pack, plus DMS Map! The standard 996 Turbo is good for 190, I recon that Simples will be good for nearly 200 as this should be the case with your friends. If it aint, I would say there is something wrong with his Porker!!!DaveCav wrote:He has the x50 and a dms upgrade , We both work together and travel 15-20 miles home each evening/mornning , He also has the dms cat's,
I borrow his he borrows mine , And even he admits this!!
Iam not saying the rs4 is the better car (because as a sports car it carnt touch the 911) But at high speeds ie 100- 150 Mph there really is nothing in our cars!

Fabspeed System, You know you want to!!! lolsimple1 wrote:mY RS is bog standard with miltek, reputedly puting out 402 bhp, 996 is 504 bhp with DMS upgrade and standard exhaust for the moment, the Porsche would eat the audi for breakfastupto 120 mph, after that they level out and feel very much the same.

I got mine from www.design911.com, sounds superb (not as loud as the Milltek!)
The E55 incedent was from 100Mph, I passed him at 145mph (on my speedo) - me and Wife both looked over to smile but he wasn't havin that and turned away. On the way down the hill the other side I hit my speed limiter (167 on my speedo). We pulled out to pass - but must of hit limiter too as he just sat there BEHIND ME!!!
The figures suggest that the Merc would win, but it was a straight forward straight line up hill drag race - not much skill required. At least my wife was impressed!
I guess I could probably change gear slightly quicker being a manual.
The good and bad points appear to be:
RS4 has bigger boot and euqal if not quicker from the line.
M3 is new and from the one RS4 I have seen, has a much nicer interior.
RS4's all seem to have 40k plus (proabaly due to age) but mine has 15k
BMW have been excellent and my car is over insured and over warranted as you can get, audi want loads of cash to warranty - its limited - its not renewable indefinately (BMW is).
Tough choices....
Maybe I just get a A4 convirtable and an astra van!

I trust this is the current E55 and not the older v8 normally aspirated.. current one is V8 supercharged with 476 bhp and 515 ft lb versus 338 and 269 ft lb so I seriously doubt your claim... always game to give it a try....
PS
Ken, since the other half beat the sill of the last RS 4 off a curb, she is only allowed to drive her oil burner... which at the last inspection.. did not have one straight panel, all wheels have been kurbed and needs professional dung out with breathing gear as it usually carries kids, dogs, horse feed and somewhere inside it is half a pint of spilt milk which is festering nicely......

Don't get me wrong, she puts up with a lot (boys with toys etc) and knows on few occasions when travelling down South that I've hit the 150/160 mark, but if she was in the car, she wouldn't be impressed with me.
She's a ton only girl!
What can the standard turbos flow? 130BHP over standard seems pretty darn goodsimple1 wrote:Going for the DMS exhaust, comes with 100 cells and fitted is less than Fabspeed unit, should leave the car with 550 bhp911TT_STEVO wrote:

Guys - I used to own an M3 and have "downgraded" to a B5 S4 (not even the RS4) .....downgraded my arse, the S4 is a much better car - period.
My wife can drive it comfortably at whatever speed she wants. it is quiet, comfortable, subtle, cheaper everywhere, it tows and it'll seat 5 adults and their luggage in comfort, you try squeezing only 4 adults and their luggage into an M3....have fun. My Mrs goes back home every 6 weeks (about 300 miles north) to see her family, she always takes my car (and she has a new 325ise). When I had the M3, she would not touch it with a barge pole for that kind of drive....I must concede though that the M3 is faster on the track, and that is really handy as I'm on the track every day......NOT. I have been driving for 15 years and never driven MY ROAD car on a track, so that argument is dead in the water.
On a final note, my neighbour has an E36 M3, last year we went down to south of Spain in tandem, him in his car, me in mine. Both had 2 adults, 1 child, luggage and similiar amount of fuel. He was slower everywhere, especially on accelaration and coming off roundabouts and tight bends. Apart from when it was wet, then he had to use the intercomms to ask me to slow down for him...
