Granted in some aspects of your case...driver ability, balls etc. would make a difference.

The reason I have an RS4 and no longer a 996 is because its great fun for all the family and the dogs.

But im telling you as a fact and a bias RS4 owner, no way on this earth will a RS4 keep with a 996 Turbo on a twisty track or road.

The RS4 with it's gearing may well be faster top end on a very long straight stretch and from my experience there's nothing in the acceleration between the two.

Put the two cars on the track at cadwell park (very twisty) and I guarentee you will be embarrassed by the difference.

Fastest track in the country is Thruxton, also holds the record for the fastest bend taken in the UK by Damon Hill. But no way will an RS4 stay with a 996 round the first half of Thruxton.

All the best

Put the two cars on a very , very wet Castle Coombe and the 996 Turbo gets left in the spray, at least it did

Surely in standard trim the RS4 cannot handle or brake anywhere near as well as a 996 turbo (no I've never driven a 996 turbo) - so a chip might help the RS4 in a straight line but I cant see how that would help it round a circuit (assuming identical driver etc) - the RS4 is not rated as much of a dynamic driving machine when in comparison to the Porsche is it?

Driving in the wet is another matter. Four wheel drive would obviously be a major advantage. Driver ability would bring a good driver into his own.

Cadwell in the wet though must have been great. By far my favourite cuircut. Just as well its not autumn with wet leaves on the track when going through the trees. Not even the best driver and traction can keep a car straight through there.

996 Turbo is 4WD.
To be fair he did have fairly poor tread on the tyres, was still
fun though !

Sounds like that Porsche drive had no balls. a 996TT in the wet with a decent driver will cain a chipped RS4 :)
