Engine Management Light

Post by gmac215 » Tue Oct 25, 2005 10:10 am

Hi,

Does anyone have any idea as to why my engine management light would come on at exactly the same time as my low fuel warning light would come on.
Happened this morning very strange, the cars just back from audi from a full service, im thinking maybe the computer is resetting itself.
Any ideas.?
B+B tuned 450bhp RS4.

I doubt it. It sounds more like a conicidence. I'm pretty sure that you must have a DTC when the Engine light comes on. Fuel the car and then check for fault codes. It might be someting related to the fueling system. The engine light is only suppose to come on when the ECU reports something broken that compromises emission standards.
Never enough...

Is the car running ok otherwise? in any event I would take it easy and get it checked ASAP.

Lights still on...
Cars running like a dream, confused.
I did have the blow off valves for the turbo's replaced when in audi last week. could that be the reason.
Im scratching my head right now.

That's what I assumed.
As I said earlier, before you scratch your head read out the fault codes. I'm sure you've got one. That will probably solve the mystery right away.

If you haven't got VAG-COM I'm sure sombody on this forum can help you out.

VAG-COM is a piece of software and a cable that you can hook up to the cars diangnostic interface ( purple plug in your rear ash tray) to check any of the electronic parts. You can also do lots more...

This means that you can check whats wrong yourself and save a lot of money on repairs. ;-)

I'm sure lots of ppl can help you out on this forum. If you're close to east london you can pop around mine and I'm sure we'll find out what's wrong.

What was the outcome?

My engine management warning light came on and stayed on last night. Car is standard.

It would appear from reading various posts that there are multiple sensors that can trigger the alarm, each with its own error code that you can read / reset with the VAG COM tool. And once it has triggered the light remains lit until the software reset; so I can't expect to go out to it this morning and see everything back to normal!

From this I guess the trip to a dealer/specialist is inevitable. I will probably give AMD a call in the morning.

...Paul. :(

Having been to AMD, the short answer is "No Fault Found", at least in terms of faults that trigger the EML. Apparently, they say, if the alarm is clear for three successive start-ups then the fault log is cleared, but not the alarm lamp.

They did go on to say the temperature sensor was showing an alarm, but that would not trigger the EML, and that was a fairly common failing, costing less than £25 to replace.

So I'll just have to hope that it remains clear.
