Engine remapping... Bad for of RS4???

Post by Franzino » Thu Sep 01, 2005 4:32 pm

About remapping. I have found some used examples that had their engines remapped (ABT or MTM) with 420HP as result.

In most cases when you do a chiptuning stage 1 you get 420HP as result. Is this 40HP increase not bad for the engine and turbo’s? Will this power increase damage the original clutch and gearbox? Or do you need a stronger clucht and some work on the gearbox and engine? All these things get more power and so get more abused then they are original designed for with 380HP!

40HP is a lot more power than standard and my first thought is, that this is bad for the long life and reliability of the car (engine, turbo, clutch, gearbox)? True?

Are there other advantages about remapping, besides the increased of 40HP?

With is the best brand of chiptuning (engine remapping stage I); MTM, ABT, Sportec…? They al deliver the same 420HP. So why is one brand better then the other? I have heard the best thing from MTM and ABT.

If I buy a car with ABT or MTM stage I. Can I make the car back original (if wanted)?

Opnions?

Thanks guys, this forum has already been a great help!!!

Just looked at the results....100% of owners said their cars preferred it!

Of course the increase in power is going to have an effect!!! Audi design the car with tolerances in mind. Tuning pushes the boundries, and some even disable some of the fail safe mechanisms.

From talking to collueges at Cosworth, (I used to work for FoMoCo many years ago) the RS4 engine was in its first natural state, a little over 450 bhp, by the time the emmisions and other factors were applied to the engine, it was left at 400......... Audi then detuned it slightly further to try and achieve a bit more longevity, and hence the current standard figure. Having heard this, my view is that providing the protection remains in place, the engine should not suffer if tweeked to 420-450 bhp.
