I thought you had to use VAG-COM?
No, it tells you how to do it in the owners manual

Cheers Dippy, will be having a go next weekend, probalby with Mobil rather than castrol just because I still have 3 litres of Mobil left so might as well just get some extra - unless others know of similar stories about mobil not being as good?

Be careful using old or left over oil, apparently synthetic oil is hydroscopic and so absorbs water over time.

All oil is hygroscopic to a certain extent whether synthetic or not. Castrol R in particular is hygroscopic. Of the synthetic oils, the ones that seem to absorb water the most are the polyglycol ones - I don't think Mobil 1 or Shell Helix use polyglycols in their formulation.

I know brake fluid does this over time, which aint good, but never heard of it before with engine oil,im sure you would be fine if they are un-opened 1ltr bottles.

I only did O-level chemistry (for those who remember what O-levels were ;)), so I'm not sure I understand this, but whereas water in brake oil is obviously a problem, surely water in engine oil will be expelled fairly soon once the engine heats up?

Newest Generation of Mobil 1 Supersyn (i.e. 0w-40 or 5w-50) is BY FAR the best oil money can buy. Use 0w-40 (503.01) for standart RS4, and 5w-50 for chipped/tuned cars. Castrol SLX 0w-30, which is very near to a 0w-40 in fact, is good too, but not as good as Mobil 1.
What's that?

Not right, you can use oil approx. 3-5 years, when stored dark and cool.
What's that?
