Tailgate trim removal question

Post by wreckxxx » Sun Mar 09, 2014 10:50 am

Hi

I would like to get at the inner workings of the tailgate to remove the corroding lock/number plate light panel for re spray and also investigate what I suspect to be water ingress that is making my boot release button behave like it has a mind of its own.

I cannot see any screws on the tailgate trim. Does it just clip onto the tailgate? Is there a method to removing it e.g. Pull x corner first then y corner etc?

Any help appreciated.

Jim

I've just fitted a new tailgate lock to my car. The biggest hassle is trying to remove the trim without breaking the fixing clip mounting points

There is 1 screw in the trim by the grab handle which goes in the hole you can see below

The below shows a broken clip mounting point

The below shows a clip at the side of its unbroken mounting point

The below shows the location of 4 clips and their mounting points (there are another 4 on the left hand side so 8 in total)

The below shows 1 of the slots where the clips lock into the tailgate
