Had mine replaced by them recently mate....I insisted on a genuine part, which took a couple of weeks to arrive, but well worth the wait. Did an ok job too...

She was very appologetic and claimed she didn't see it coming

I milked it for a while then told her that it was no way her fault. She was probably sat up someones arse judging by the amount of chips on the bonnet

Probably not, I was following white van man the other day, I was obviously playing with his phone and vered onto the central reservation of the M4, next thing I was dodging stones, not wee ones, fecking great big boulders..........

DAVIDP20V wrote:Be careful Ben there are quite a few dodgy fitters that havent got a clue, I had mine done by Autoglass in Slough, I asked for a experienced fitter, I watched over the guy like a hawk. must admit he was perfect. No quiblles at all.
Ben, so you ask RS246 and David, Golich and even Golichs' Audi dealer recommend one company then you go and use someone else :? :!:

Mighty strange Audi Customer Service told you to get Audi to fit the screen... but Golichs dealer says they don't fit glass themselves, just call in Autoglass! This is because they only use Audi glass (and will have it in stock) - the reason they are so much more expensive!!. Other companies will not use OE by default hence have to order one. Guess you are going by insurance so this will not matter as they are paying :D

To answer your original question, unlike the E46, W202 & W203, Audi made the B5 simple: One screen for all models. Green tint throughout, black dots around the edges and don't forget the vin notch!

RAC did mine BUT I demanded a genuine Audi screen. They cracked the first one and had to bring a second one. The genuine one has the mirror fitting on the screen already. The non-genuine one doesn't.

It does. Both are made by the same company.. One just has the Audi stamp on it, and carries a premium. I've had about 4 windscreens now, and can't be bothered to go through the trouble of getting a genuine one.

The truth of the matter is that, to be Audi approved you must have a genuine screen fitted with the Audi glue. Only a handfull of Audi centers have the facilities to use the Audi glue, i.e. Peter Gilder Audi in Sheffield.

Eh Ian? I'm a bit lost :D

I insisted on a genuine screen and got the "Approved" guys to fit it. The first one they brought was marked already so they have just got another one and fitted it this morning.
As far as I can see they haven't done any damage so top marks at the moment to RAC Auto Windscreens.

Cheers all,

Ben

All I got told when I called Audi is that their approved fitter was RAC Autowindscreens. Personally, I couln't give a monkeys who fitted it as long as they did a tip top job. Luckily these were the guys that my insurance company use.

Cheers

Ben

Ouch, I had something similar happen to the windscreen of my old car, some kids threw something off a motorway bridge, bang, hit windscreen in similar place and it shattered (See attached), pulled over called the police... Long story nothing happened, made a complaint later, found out 13people had called in under an hour to complain about the kids dropping stuff :( Ars*e

What you need to do is fix a minigun to the roof to take them out before you get to the bridge :<beep>_you: :FIREdevil:
