Well

In a stock mode, the RS 4 would be faster than the M3 on the quarter miles and on every launch. The M3 could be faster on the race track, since it is a sedan. However, I do believe that the potential of the RS 4 is far way deeper than the M3.
But I do like the CSL though.

Did have a run with an M3 in France in the summer, I was five up with a boot full of luggage. We both took off out of a toll booth, (yes I know it was silly) but the M3 was not making any headway, in fact I closed the gap on him quite easily, and yes he was trying. At about 130 mph, he pulled in and we past him. Obviously had more respect for the French road laws than me :bigwave:

M3s are nimble around the track, but ultimately fail in the top speed sections, however the M3 CSL is a different matter, it woops standard RS4 and gives a modded one a hard time in the dry...
But in the wet the RS4 is supreme

I have had a 0-201m race against a M3 CSL. It was a very uneven fight... My RS4 did the run in 8.05 sec and the M3 CSL in 8,80 sec. (We both made several runs each, but the result was (almost) the same...)

When it comes to good handling on a race track, the race will be much more even. The M3 CSL isn't that very fast when you are driving straight, but it is very well balanced...

My experience of the RS4 and the M3 CSL, with the speed limiter removed, is that the M3 eats it on track (Nürburgring) but the RS4 is faster on the Autobahn. Both have terrible stock brakes. I do like driving the M3 CSL, it feels very sharp. Its not a great winter car, you need 3 sets of tyres for it, Winter, Shoulder and Summer.

Standard M3 is no match for stock RS4 on a track. CSL is about the same as the RS4 on the track but it tends to be slower out of corners. Both have awful brakes.

RS4 is about the same with the CSL on the race track? Where did you get this info RS4ever? The CSL is a competitor for GT3 RS and Stradale on the race track! Do you think that even the best modified RS4 can do 1.13,5 in Hockenheim and 7.50 min in Nordschlife? NOP!!!

I can imagine that a well modified RS4 could do that...suspension set up, tyres and brakes and I bet you wouldn't be far off at all...

You bet DaveP?

Ok then. Who can find out what lap times the RS4 did at Hockenheim and Nordschliefe?

I guess it is arround 1,18 vs 1,13.5 in Hockenheim
and 8,20 min vs 7,50 in Nordschleife.

Of course those times should be the one of a stock RS4. The best modified RS4 from my point of view cannot get lower than 8 min in Norschliefe and 1,15 - 1,16 in Hockenheim.

Anyone who can proove that? Maybe Conti can find some info about that, right? There are many tests of modified RS4 on those two race tracks.

Yep, stock RS4...8.20...on stock tyres...the CSL has cup tyres for a start, which will make a hell of a difference.

I'd be willing to bet a modified, well set up RS4 could do it in under 8 minutes...not with me driving of course :D - I don't even think you'd need to modify the engine/mapping...just suspension/tyres and brakes.

But hey...it's all opinions...and it doesn't really matter at the end of the day :P
